    Buying my first plane PA-32-300

I did almost the exact same thing. However, I went from a 177 to a PA32 300. I also had about 100-150 hours more than you. I would recommend a partner in the plane. I had partners in the 177 and it made a big difference. It’s surprising how much money you can waste when you don’t know the ins...

    Why is VOR painted red.

Don’t you have a magenta line or something to look at. Very dangerous to be looking out there! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Flying a PA/32 on BasicMed

We have a partnership with a PA32. After reading through everything, we all maintain a Class3 Medical. There’s a lot of confusing info out there. YMMV. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Mandatory reporting...am I doing it wrong?

As far as Thing #2 goes, I think it would be more important if ATC had assigned a crossing limit and you couldn’t meet it due to limited climb ability. I’ve never heard anyone announce unable to climb at 500. I’ll be interested to hear what others have to say. As far as Thing #1 goes, I’m not...

Checked out in a Cardinal - Fun!

Learn your approach numbers then fly those approach numbers. The Cardinal is a very slick plane and doesn’t slow down very well. A few knots over and it is very difficult and even dangerous to land. Never force it onto the runway. A single bounce on touchdown is a go around. If your airspeed...

    NC airports

Landed at Currituck last week. It’s a great little airport. Everyone from the airport manager to the people hanging around were very friendly and very helpful. I got a car rental from Enterprise in Elizabeth City. No hassles. Get the local phone number from the airport. Enterprise will drop...

Easy way to find out when a VOR was decommissioned?

<snark> Fly down there and ask for that VOR approach. Wait for the controller to yell that VOR was decommissioned in ****. Thank him as you file your ASRS report. <End snark> Good luck on your search. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Busting Altitude

You’re VFR in training. Altitude is at your discretion. There is no altitude to bust. My instructor didn’t file IFR and fly actual IMC until later in my training. I remember him very calmly saying “altitude” and I’d be 7-800 feet off. I learned. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

May it be safer to use less power on takeoff?

Well, if I️ don’t hit 88 mph, it’s a waste. The flux capacitor never kicks in. The AOA indicator reads zero. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    RNAV 36, Joplin, MO

I’m pretty sure that once you reached JEMLO and turned inbound to RARRO your GPS would sequence automatically. If not, I agree with AggieMike that you would hit flight plan and select the next leg to fly. The only constructive criticism I would make is that as a low time IFR pilot, ask the...

Who to call in advance for routing

The Tampa Bay controllers are great. The outer ring guys know that people would prefer the scenic route. The Bravo airspace is pretty well designed to allow freedom of movement by GA. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Cell phone use in the air

Spin practice if she touches her phone! That’s it right there! With an innocent look on my face, “Sorry, Honey. I don’t know what happened there. Did you touch your phone? I guess I’ll need to install a new piece of equipment to prevent that in the future. I hear that an AOA indicator will...

    AOPA can sell health insurance?

I don’t usually get involved in these discussions, but... I just saw a woman last night who is in her 20s, self employed and never had any health issues who chose not to get insurance. I diagnosed her with a major medical issue that will cost her 100s of thousands of dollars. She will lose her...

What To Expect At Key West

Done this same trip. Loved it. The family still talks about it. We departed Destin and talked to the Air Force base over the Shuttle facility and were cleared to overfly the shuttle landing strip. We stayed at 1500 along the coast all the way to Miami with flight following. They were very busy...

    Birmingham 6 Departure

I've been flying out of KBHM for 7 years now and have never gotten a DP. They are training some new controllers. I wonder how much that contributed. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
