    Private Sale or Broker?

I'm certainly not too busy to put in the effort. I may need to seek help on sales agreements, escrow, etc., and Vermont apparently will expect me to collect sales and use tax, and if I fail to do so they can charge me for it.

    Private Sale or Broker?

I really appreciate the comments. They're very helpful and I'm certainly leaning towards doing it on my own, and the mechanic where I store it has offered to help. It's got lots of checkboxes - always hangared, no damage history, all maintenance logs, recent avionics upgrade with G500 +...

    Private Sale or Broker?

This has probably been discussed here before, but I may be having to sell my 1975 C206 that I've owned for 40 years. I used a broker a few years ago to sell our PA12 on floats, but I recall the commission was quite high for not a lot of work, but the sale also went off without any bumps. Also...

How do I approach this? - SI requirement to see therapist (mental health), but no current issues...

"Situational depression", if that's what it was, is often a lot different than major depression. You need to convince the FAA that yours was the former, and the FAA only wants a professional opinion rather than your own.

    Flying the Piper Pawnee

And speaking of Pawnees, last year I had a very strange deformation of the left elevator that I didn't notice until pre-flight the following day. Now Piper is working on an AD for all Pipers using 1025 carbon steel (31,000 aircraft) due to spontaneous deformation of the rudder in two aircraft...

    Flying the Piper Pawnee

We have two Pawnees, a C and a D model. One of them (I never remember WHICH one) has longer rudder horns, which require less rudder force when students are boxing the wake. They also fly a litle differently, but whenever I have a choice I always pick the one that's easiest to get in and out of...

Looking for destination recommendations for mid-June

Cape Cod and the Islands can get pretty busy all summer. We had a house there until two years ago - right on the water in Phinney's Harbor and converted from a boathouse by my great-grandfather 120 years ago. Unfortunately, it was SO close to the water that it was eventually demolished and...

Looking for destination recommendations for mid-June

Being from New England I'd look into Maine and/or Vermont. It's a very pleasant time of the year and a relaxed atmosphere. We live in Vermont and love just staying here that time of the year.

    I just got screwed..

One thing that is sometimes overlooked with the CFI pathway is how much you actually LEARN by teaching, as long as you're diligent in your effort to improve your knowledge and experience. I think that applies to a number of other professions as well.

Practicing short field landings in gusting winds

In the Cub I never use full flaps in a short field landing with gusting winds. It doesn't have flaps.

    I just got screwed..

Yikes! That's a rough story. I'm skeptical of any skydiving operation, and turned one down that was just a few miles away from my home when I found that their insurance was virtually non-existant. I guess if you're looking for a time builder it can be worthwhile, but the risks are relatively...

I think food should taste bad

And speaking of Dave Barry, I have to share this momento from a column he wrote in the Miami Herald years ago and claimed my name could have been "Oee Bali" from my signature. :)

    Commercial Confusion

I look at the commercial certificate as something like a diploma for higher education, and I like to think that everyone who has one met at least the minimum standards. Would you want to go to a doctor who cheated his way through medical school? How about sharing airspace with someone who did...

    Commercial Confusion

I don't either. How do YOU do that? It sounds like a variation of, "It's OK to lie as long as you don't get caught", although it's rare for someone like that to seek out instructions for the best way to do that.

    The Art of Propeller Manufacturing

I also like the scimitar props, but probably my favorite of the collection is this rare Bleriot X1 prop for a 25 HP Anzani engine, circa 1910, in original condition having evidence of being previously flown. (Link to page.) .

    The Art of Propeller Manufacturing

Yeah, and some of the earliest props had this curved shape based on the Wright's theory that the blades should act like two wings spiraling around a central axis. That shape, and many other concepts, were quickly abandoned in the 1920s and 1930s as blades took the symettrical, balanced and...

    The Art of Propeller Manufacturing

I was recently asked to display some of my collection of WW1 era propellers at a local art show (Waitsfield, VT) with a theme of "Aloft" - mostly birds, butterflies, photography, paintings and anything aerial. I did this once before in another location, and we found that the pilots gave the...

    Base leg altitude

I wonder how many people who insist that they be able to glide to a landing also depart in such a way that they can glide back to a landing? After all, an engine failure on takeoff is more likely and the power is more necessary in that phase, not to mention that you are typically flying in the...
