    Converting Certified to Experimental

Not exactly as E-AB isn't a catch all. Yes "Kit-Built" is an Experimental Light Sport sub-category, however the question in post 4 was not related to that. It was related to "Kit-Built Aircraft" as one of the 9 main special airworthiness categories - see posts 3, 5, and 6.

    Early Birds and TFRs

Yes, but most of that is by ground. There are some who fly in early, but the parking lines, IIRC, don't get laid out until Tues or Wed plus there's no services open whatsoever on the field. Heck, I'm not sure if all the porta potties are in place yet. The AirVenture NOTAM goes into effect at...

Does anybody else collect the Aeroshell Cow Posters

We’ve got a few but what we actually sorta collect are the baggage tags that you can personalize. We’ve got’em on everything that needs a tag and get them for friends and family.

Alrightee then. My neck, right shoulder and knees will just have to agree to disagree with you.

That’s fine, but it’s a benefit you earned and not a handout. Sounds like you are a unicorn based on your service if you retired with no service related issues, which is rare even for us admin, non-operator types which was my original point that has been lost in the sauce. My wife also is a...

100%. You need something that you can work in that’s large enough, that you can keep clean, keep your parts and assemblies clean and secure, and has adequate power. Everything else is gravy.

Drinking an Old Fashioned at the moment as it’s National Bourbon Day. If you make it to Osh or are ever in the Tampa area or SNF I’ll hook you up for sure.

I respect debate and our ability to hold what is really a civil discourse. In the end we’ll agree to disagree but I’d gladly shake your hand and offer you an adult beverage of your choice anytime.

    100% T&P va rating and a 1st class medical

There’s no absolutes for sure but anecdotally there are a number that feel that way. I work at CENTCOM and IMO a draft/mandatory mil service would definitely not fix the issues we currently face from a force structure perspective.

    100% T&P va rating and a 1st class medical

That’s not really what I’m saying. Some of the posts are heavy on assumptions and short on facts. I’m not dissing anyone’s right to complain, but to make certain assumptions and statements without walking a mile in our shoes irks me, particularly since I do have a rating and am definitely not...

Nope, not even close. The nearest impact to me was about around 100 meters away. But in Iraq I kept a log of the attacks (bear in mind I was a fobbit) and it was 275 during the first 3 months (generally 1-3 88mm rockets) and 7 for the last 3 months. Primarily at Balad, but it happened at...

    Converting Certified to Experimental

It is not the kits normally associated with E-AB aircraft. The "Kit-Built" category in this instance is in relation to "Primary Category" certified aircraft with a production certificate. If a Primary Category kit is built without the production certificate holder's supervision then it can only...

Concur, but IMO you need to ***** from an informed position, which based upon a number of posts here doesn't seem to be the case and I assume come from folks who have not served and don't understand anything about the military beyond what they've seen in the movies and on TV or how VA benefits...

To piggyback on this. Since you're planning to build an RV-10, if you don't know. there are RV specific tool kits out there. Hawk the VAF classifieds as they come up for sale time to time from builders who abandon their projects or have finished and no longer feel the need to retain all of it...

    100% T&P va rating and a 1st class medical

Are there folks gaming the system - yes. Does a given military job (AFSC/NEC/MOS) pre-determine what your VA disability rating will be - no. Does being in combat - no. I was a so-called chair flyer for most my 20-year USAF career, but I was on jump status for 2.5 years of those years (a rarity...

The flip side to this is going off plans and making a bunch of mods, especially ones that aren't common. These can add significant amount of unforecast time to a build.

Scary High Oil Temps - Lycoming 540

Interesting redline on that gauge. The Lycoming Operators Manual states the max oil temp for 540s is 245* F and recommends for max engine life keeping it between 165* and 200* in level flight, cruise conditions.
