Thinking about a home security system

Yeah, it definitely spooked us. And we are in a very low crime part of the bay too in general (Atherton/Woodside) but break ins do occur. This is when he entered one of my garages.

Thinking about a home security system

Had a guy attempt to break in a while back while we were home (and had windows open so he could hear us). He only ended up entering one of our garages and did not take anything but it was pretty spooky. Police took it very seriously and sent out a lot of officers and detectives to collect...

    Sunglasses

Since switching to the Bose Proflight Headset from the Bose A20s I now just use a set of regular Ray Ban Wayfarer liteforce sunglasses which are the same ones I use in all other settings...

    17yo 4th gen PPL - proud dad

Congrats to you and your son! That’s so cool! I hope my kids will be interested in being pilots (a bit early to tell so far but we have some good signs)

    Hangar space - in demand…

I do that with cars - don't see why insurance would be more worried with lighter weight airplanes... And to the OP - I agree - hangar availability in some parts of the country is bonkers. My friend in Columbus OH is trying to find a hangar at OSU, CMH or TZR and has been told the wait lists...

    What a Cross Country

I go back and forth from CA to FL at least once a year (as well as CA to MO and other long haul flights). I could do it solo in a single day in the Cirrus (cruise speed ~200 KTAS) but not with wife and kids… they don’t have the patience. Now I do these trips in the babyjet and while I wish it...

    B17 crash at Dallas.

Interesting differences between the AOPA and blancolirio assessments. AOPA seems to be in the camp that the fighters and bombers were supposed to be on laterally separated show lines and the P63 overshot and went into the bomber line. Juan Browne seems to believe they were using the same show...

Does ground/clearance delivery know the phrase "learner pilot"?

Very true... Sometimes it is a little cringey but then I think about how stupid I would sound in German...

And the award for “Most in need of new N number” goes to…

This guy who hangars where I fly from has a nice tail number (and airplane!). He’s also a really nice guy!

    L-39 or Spitfire?

That's a healthy margin on the L-39 rate!

    NA: slow garage door opener

Been there, done that... Very annoying... But just a slight tweak, do not install cheap, unshielded LEDs from China. I have decent pancake LED lighting in my garage and there is no interference. Having LOTS of light in the garage is important to me!

    Maverick

Kind of surprised to find myself in the minority here but my wife and I both loved it. Neither of us had set foot in a theater in 5+ years (she saw something about 5 years ago, it's been at least 8 years for me), but we got a babysitter and went to see it together and had a great time. I also...

Best Hangar Air compressor for maintenance tasks?

+1 Mine is in the garage and it is a bit heavy but SO much quieter than the cheapo ones... I threw away my Harbor freight pancake compressor because it was making everyone in the neighborhood deaf.

    MU2 vs Turbine Single

Textron stopped producing the Mustang in 2017 IIRC - but they are indeed still very well supported and will be for a long time.

    MU2 vs Turbine Single

Mustang is a terrific family airplane. Slow for a jet but fast for a GA plane, super easy to fly, safe and comfortable for the family. The AC works very well too. The reason they are cheap (relatively speaking) is that the bulk of the people who have $2M+ to spend on an owner flown airplane are...

Another FedEx Package Journey thru the system.

Fun fact - in that instance, those 3 shipments of the same thing managed to screw it up in 3 entirely different ways. One was officially listed as damaged by Fedex (and then vanished from there), one was officially "delivered" but definitely not to my house and one was delayed a few times and...

Another FedEx Package Journey thru the system.

Not here. UPS is 99% on time and intact. FedEx is 99% delayed, lost or destroyed. Our local last mile carriers may have a significant impact in those stats but I basically have to beg vendors not to use FedEx or I do my best to find an alternate vendor that doesn’t. It is so bad that one very...

    Helicopter vs airplane

Disclaimer - I have very few logged helicopter hours and only about a dozen total (mostly unlogged)... but, I will say that as a pretty experienced RC helicopter pilot, I actually did not find it all that hard to fly a full scale helicopter. I needed to adapt to the rate of response of the...

    Fatal: walked into prop

Here is an accident overview of the one I was talking about. https://planecrashmap.com/plane/pa/N56639/ I bring it up because this guy was a cfi and knew better but he saw an unexpected risk and just reacted too fast without thinking and it was all over in a second. It’s a good reminder that...
