    Hours for a C182 annual

Last year was the first time I did an owner assisted annual and I did all the inspection panel removal, changed the oil, ran to get needed tools, and kept the mechanic hydrated and fed. Not only did I learn new things about the airplane but the annual was $1,500 instead of the $5,000 I paid the...

Have You Had a Drone Accident?

Doesn't matter. I'm more interested in tracking hardware failures and causes of crashes or incidents.

Have You Had a Drone Accident?

When I'm not enjoying the heck out of the advice and wisdom from this forum, I'm a public safety manned and unmanned pilot. Not that long ago I had a dire situation during a 2 AM flight looking for a missing autistic child with a drone that just autolanded. That drone issue led me to start...

    Backfire on starting

Well, then I'm not the only one that's happened to. :) It will blow out some of the baffles in your exhaust system but you can decide how traumatic that is. I tried every convoluted step and currently, I just crank the engine with no prime and if it needs a little help I give it a shot of...

Intermittent GPS Outage on a Wonderful 430W

It feels just like the outages I experienced during active jamming that was in the NOTAMs before but I just wish I could narrow it down before just dropping $$$ for a GPS antenna I might not need. But that is an interesting observation. Thanks for letting me know.

Intermittent GPS Outage on a Wonderful 430W

It's one of those types of problems we all hate. It doesn't happen all the time. It will go weeks without happening. And there is no consistency as to why it happens. I flew a mission last night for three hours and not a single issue. Except for that darn freq flip button that doesn't like me...

Intermittent GPS Outage on a Wonderful 430W

Interesting. This is why I love this forum. I'll have to check to see if it is installed.

Intermittent GPS Outage on a Wonderful 430W

Recently replaced the ELT with a replacement 406MHZ ELT ACK E-04 and new antenna for it.

Intermittent GPS Outage on a Wonderful 430W

This is what makes this so irritating. No and no. I do have a GPS outage at my home airport KRDU in the same spot on a taxiway but I've always had that.

Intermittent GPS Outage on a Wonderful 430W

I'd never had a GPS outage on my 430W until the planned GPS jamming testing this year. But now I'm having them more often in flight. My avionics shop said they would replace the antenna first and check the connections but I'd love to hear from anyone else that has had a similar issue. On my...

This doesn't seem like it should be this difficult - Finding parts for a common airframe

Interestingly they were not making any new ones 12-16 weeks ago. I found one of the last ones for my plane in stock at a supplier.

    EGT Loss during climb out

I don't know what caused your issue but all I can say is from my experience I would not fly it again without a licensed/certificated mechanic inspecting it to determine if there is a bigger issue brewing.

How does exhaust heat affect CHT probe wires?

I've never had an issue with the CHT wires. But I do go through EGT probes that burn off.

    Should I get my IA?

If it sounds like something that you can putz around doing and have fun with, do it. What's the downside of doing something you love? https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/14/65.93 looks easy enough to jump the hurdle to keep the IA active once you get it. An 8-hour refresher course, no problem.

    Weatherstripping

I purchased the "official" weatherstripping, the right glue, and spent about $150 for everything to arrive. My mechanic wound up tearing it all off afterward and using weatherstripping from the local auto parts store that cost $19. You should absolutely purchase what you feel most comfortable...

A different kind of hot start issue - help !

I have no magic answer for you but I did just recently replace both an alternator and a starter. I removed a lightweight SkyTec starter and replaced it with a beefy Hartzell starter and it has changed my starting world. No more struggling to start. I'm sure your A&P will get you fixed up but...

    Cessna 182P Shore Power

I fully resolved. my problem the easy way. Gave up. With the help of kind people here I was reminded about the age-old life hack, RTFM (Read the F*****g Manual). Problem solved. :-)
