The end of flying as we know it??

China has already been doing the battery swap. If BYD was allowed to sell in the US, bye bye Tesla. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a33670482/nio-swappable-batteries-lease/

    B-1B, Ellsworth, all eject

Well the guy has the quals. He’s no rookie. Outside of the military, 2,000 hrs would be a joke. Airline guys probably get that in 3 years on the line. But 2,000 hrs is pretty good for a military pilot no matter what the airframe. Now, 2,000 hrs in 20 years though? That’s not too impressive...

I was wondering about that. I brought up months ago the fact that there are a lot of military aircraft with either no AP or it’s just an AP with heading / altitude hold and no approach modes. 3,840 hrs in the Army and all my instrument flying was hand flown.

    B-1B, Ellsworth, all eject

Yeah I remember the SR-71 and F-117 guys did that a lot as well because they flew so few hours in the actual aircraft. I’m surprised the IP only had 300 total sim hours after 20 years. I had over 400 sim hrs only 12 yrs and I avoided the sim like the plague.

Was the approach hand flown or on AP?

    Pilawt - Jeff Jacobs

Sorry to hear that. I enjoyed hearing Jeff’s flying stories. He had a wealth of GA experience. RIP.

Currency is a combination of both flying hours and simulator. Simulator alone doesn’t equate to currency. That’s why they have a flying hour program. The aircraft commander’s 300 hrs of simulator over 20 years of flying isn’t anything to brag about either. Then there’s the 2,000 hrs over 20...

    Bruce Bohannon

Man I remember back in the 90s he dominated with Pushy Galore. He was on EAA’s Ultimate Flights series a lot back then. RIP.

Maintaining basic flying skills when you’re flying 4 sorties and 11 hrs in 90 days? Good luck with that. Hard to imagine that a crew based out of South Dakota didn’t know about cold weather altimeter effects.

Meh, all those guys will be replaced by drones soon. ;)

    Tesla Pickup Unveil

I’ve always liked the Silverado over the Cybertruck. Even though I’m not a truck guy, that thing has excellent range and I actually think the feature to power your entire home for 3 days could add serious utility. I use 110 with my Model X almost exclusively and that works fine for 99 % of my...

Since when have transponders been on for the VFR Fisk Arrival

Well I thought I had a pic of it but I can’t find it. Anyway, if you can imagine a tag or just a 1200 code that’s near the radar sweep, and all of a sudden like 5 more duplicate tags / codes wrap around the display. Only lasts a few seconds but still annoying. The primary target stays put and...

Since when have transponders been on for the VFR Fisk Arrival

Never worked with ADS-B but I think the tag is more configurable than with just 3/3A. If that’s the case, it’s possible for ATC to reduce the amount of clutter on their displays. I know there’s still a provision allowing them to have an ADS-B aircraft to go to standby in high traffic areas...

    Runup area to runway priority?

Like @midlifeflyer said, it’s not a computer giving you a release time. There are situations for airliners where the traffic management unit will issue slots but’s that’s based on heavy traffic at major airports. Your release is nothing more than the approach controller making a gap to fit you...

Departing VFR after telephoning for an IFR clearance

If they told you hold for release the first time, I sure wouldn’t depart on your IFR code. Technically you’d have to get another clearance when airborne. I’ve heard of controllers making up phraseology for an airborne aircraft that’s already gotten their clearance on the ground. Something like...

    121 Pilot Medical Training

Yeah I should’ve asked for both 121/135 input. We’re getting ready to start the training but I was just curious if it was common in the industry for pilots to be trained. I believe FAs are required but haven’t really read anything on pilots.

    121 Pilot Medical Training

I was wondering if our airline POAers are required to attend periodic basic life saving (BLS) courses? If so, what is the extent of the training? Thanks.

Urgent go-around instruction worthy of Brasher?

No, that’s just clarifying that as pilots serving in the military, there are rules outside of military regs you have to comply with. It’s no different than the ICAO regs I was required to comply with when I flew in Europe. We had some relief (RNAV requirement) for their regs but other things...
