New Pilot wannbe sayin Hello to all

Welcome aboard! You might want to download an app like LiveATC for your phone and listen to it whenever you can. Even if your airport is not listed, it is kind of fun to listen to and you will start to absorb some of the terminology commonly used.

    Tank switching

I was trained exclusively in high-winged aircraft (Cessna 150/152/172), where fuel tank selection was a part of the pre-flight (set to "both") and not routinely thought about afterwards. I was recently checked out in a Warrior (low-winged), and had this question: What do you do to remind...

    Touch and go?

Only 230 SMOH. Freshly painted bottom, and tires practically unused. Advertising is all in the wording.

Texas set to pass open carry ..

You have a lot more trust in the carefree attitude of liberals and both the media and multiple corporations they control. The grocery store within walking distance from my business is Sprout's. They have a nice organic selection. When I want to go get a quick lunch I walk over there, but they...

Texas set to pass open carry ..

I am a Texan with my concealed permit, and am constantly concerned about my piece printing. So not having to worry about someone seeing a hint of a shadow would be nice. Though if anyone does ask me about it, I will simply say that it is my colostomy bag and give them a disgusted stare. :eek...

I also like Air Sports Net, or MOS Graphics. If I just want a feel for a little further out, I look at Weather Underground, or the local TV station's 1-minute forecast on the net for a bird's eye view of future weather trends.

On the road to purchasing my first plane!

Make sure the pre-buy is done by a person you select and not the seller. I have been looking at Cherokee 180's myself and think it is a great family plane!

When to switch to tower frequency

I also do the same, ground until at the runway and #1 for takeoff. One exception would be if taxiing between two parallel active runways. I am pretty sure then you are on tower's watch and should monitor that frequency. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I want to get back into flying.

Much like petrolero I got my PPL, then after less than 100 hours, stopped flying for over 20 years! :mad2: Then after spending a lot of time reading (e.g., what in the heck does Class B mean), listening to LiveATC, and watching some YouTube videos, I went out to my local class D airport and...

    Unintended water landing

Did your friend give any details? I know nothing about water landings, but I would suppose if you hit the bank on splashdown, bad consequences might follow. Then again, the advantage of inverting into the drink is that no one will ever know how badly you pi**ed yourself.

    Tailwheel endorsement before DC-3 type?

My father served in the Army Air Force on a C-47 (crew chief) in the European theater of WW2. This thread brings back fond memories of some of the great stories he shared. :) RIP, dad.

    Unintended water landing

The water strip is adjacent to 17L. I wonder if this could be a taildragger that did a ground loop and wound up in the drink. I had a meeting tonight so I didn't have time to go snoop around.

Yes, I do usually fly out of KDWH, but I promise it wasn't me. http://abc13.com/news/plane-crash-lands-at-hooks-airport/572993/

    Reducing Hobbs/CFI time during training

I have rented a bunch of poorly-maintained planes over the years, but for some reason the Hobbs meter is the one thing that always works flawlessly. The Hobbs must be a top priority on their 100-hour inspections.
