    Flight Videoing

That NFlightCam is a great idea (love the GPS option, too), but in my experience, that particular lipstick camera they use does awful, awful things with the prop. All CMOS based cameras (almost all small cameras these days) are subject to some level of prop artifacting, but some are way worse...

    Flight Videoing

Very inventive (and nice videos). :yesnod: I generally record the audio separately and have to match it back up in post. BTW, what mount are you using for the GoPro Hero HD, and where are you mounting it in the airplane? Pretty good perspective and vibration seems to be fairly minimal...

Make Me Jealous Of Your Airport

Hey, Kent. What's all that green stuff? :dunno:

    Say Intentions?

 LOL, that's funny. Just to throw my two cents in for the OP, I generally cold call a tower (i.e. class D, no handoff) with the full request. If it's super busy I might just say tail number just so I can get a word in edgewise. That's pretty rare, though, in my experience. Even...

The wife wants a new plane

Yes. My wife and my three boys (plus me). This is the situation I've been in since I got my cert. I fly a 182 right now and love the plane...in fact, it's all I really need right now...except for that extra pesky seat. It's affordable and carries a load of stuff...except for my whole family...

FAA approves iPads for pilots' electronic charts

Do you have pics of it mounted in the 182?

Zulu or Sierra,... what's the difference?

Congrats Rob and Adam! I think you're going to like these cans. Don't forget to register them so you can have Lightspeed donate money on your behalf. Enjoy...and let us know what you think when you fly with them.

Zulu or Sierra,... what's the difference?

Oh booo hoooo! You had to fly for 9 hours while I worked. :wink2: To answer your question, though, I spent some time with the Sierras in Lightspeed's tent at OSH (Tiffany, Stu, and I spent about 8 hours total in that tent doing three days of interviews for the Pilotcast for our Lightspeed...

    Starting a Flight School

As a working person and a family man, I thought I hit my training pretty hard, and was lucky to get in 3 hours a week (plus all the study that goes with that 3 hours). If I were single, rich, or unemployed I could have probably done 6 or more, although if the latter I probably couldn't have...

    ForeFlight pirep - not impressed

Just using the GPS continually drains the battery as well, screen on or not. You would be hard pressed to get 2.5 hours out of it with the GPS running...probably only 2 with both the GPS and the screen full bright. Add to that the carrier radio "searching" for a signal (which also drains the...

How often do you make mistakes?

This I know...which is why I want to see if it makes sense to update my own procedures based on the experience of someone with far more hours in this airplane than me. There is more than one way to gain experience, too, is there not?

    First Soaring Contest

That's what I hear about him; acro champ. In any case, he seems like a really nice guy...and I need to take him up on that offer with my buddy!

    Marine Osprey Incident

Once down, though, I understand they turn the nacelles more toward horizontal again and it blows the "cloud" away in a heartbeat. The cloud can have adverse effects on a deploying troops...so I think they blow it away, then send the men/women with guns out. That's the way I understand it, anyway.

    First Soaring Contest

Thanks, Tony. A close friend of mine has introduced me to a longtime friend of his, Jason, who runs Estrella Sailport (http://azsoaring.com/). He's offered a ride in a Grob 103 Acro (and to allow me to land my 182 there), but I just haven't done it yet. Jason competes in Acro, I think, so the...

How often do you make mistakes?

Interesting. I fly basically the same airplane and I do things slightly differently. I don't want to hijack the thread, so remind me to talk to you about this sometime...I could be about to enhance my flying knowledge WRT this airplane by drawing on your vast experience in the 182. I better...

    Marine Osprey Incident

If it weren't for people getting injured, it looks pretty effective at spring cleaning any loose debris laying around the park...and trimming of trees.

    ForeFlight pirep - not impressed

Thanks, Tyson. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like the 3G is dog slow. :) Foreflight, though, seems as fast as anything else on the device, so you must be optimizing the code pretty well so far. I'm sure the upcoming changes will make it even better. Like I said before, I don't even use...

    ForeFlight pirep - not impressed

It wasn't about being right or wrong. You were saying that you didn't think it worked for you. That may be the case, but I was simply telling you that it is not because of a lack of cell signal, and telling you a way to prove it to yourself. You took the time to go into airplane mode...taking...
