    Landing on every runway (1 - 36)

Certainly the norm to match the wind sweeping down the plains, but you can get a few more over in Muskogee and Tulsa: 13/31 and 4/22 at KMKO 1/19 and 13/31 at KRVS 8/26 at KTUL

    To Insure or not?

If they total it sure. You said you would be afraid they wouldn't total it if over-insured because you'd worry about the repairs. If they don't total it, you get a check and can do whatever you want with the plane - repair it however you want or sell it. If they total it, it's not yours and...

    To Insure or not?

As others have said, at a minimum, you really need to keep the liability (and in most cases the hull value coverage on top of that is minimal). If the $1,500 is "a lot of money", you can't afford not to be covered for the liability to others. Your choice if you're willing to let the value of...

    To Insure or not?

In that case, take the check they offer you and sell the plane for salvage yourself. They don't arrange and pay for the repairs or reimburse you for actual - they write you a check for what the agreed upon settlement is.

    Bad attitudes

You nailed it, that's exactly what Jim is doing. People like to remember the "good old days" but don't bother to translate/convert that to today. We should laud the kid for actually working so that he contributes to covering his expenses, not lecture him about the way it was 30/40/50 years ago.

    Bad attitudes

What laws say you have to charge the same amount for service to different individuals? Not illegal nor immoral and nothing wrong at all with it unless you are upset because you don't like someone else getting a better deal.

    Part 135 Maintenance Questions

No offense, but if you don't already have a good idea of that, you have the cart way too far out in front of the horse.

    College station Tx anyone ?

in the way back, it would be a two lane Highway 6 & Hempstead Highway into what's now the Galleria and then wherever you were headed in town, I'd bet 2 hours minimum. The Houston airport at the time would have been Hobby too.

Man, this young man didn't say anything to deserve the insults from you. Did the grocery help upset you recently?

After your PPL and IFR is it possible to take lessons in a Turboprop?

And we wonder why people don't feel welcome to aviation. Jiminy....

    KOAK and a quick turn

You're right, you just hope they'll tolerate your operation without charging you. Certainly that way many places.

    KOAK and a quick turn

Why shouldn't there be a charge for you and your passenger using their facility? They pay rent, utilities, staff, overhead, etc. to be there to facilitate your needs. Shouldn't they get paid for that?

    Will General Aviation Survive

All the doom and gloom replies in this thread are reason enough to run someone with a curiosity and interest in learning to fly off. Plenty of replies trying to dispel the notion, but if a potential student came to research about being a pilot and read through all of this, they'd be well within...

    Plane Missing Over Lake Erie

Flightaware "data" and tracks now are quite different than they were in the past. In the past year, it has become a much less useful and reliable tool IMHO. I agree with MAKG's assessment that it often spews bad info now. Before it was strictly the data feed from the ATC computers (from the...

    Will General Aviation Survive

So, you really aren't asking the question "Will General Aviation survive?", you are pronouncing its demise?

Looks like a major Frontier fiasco...

It's really a Denver problem, not a Frontier problem. Neighbors tried to leave Houston for their holiday ski trip and after a "United" cancellation due to the Denver weather, they have confirmed seats in 4 or 5 days. Frontier may be worse due to low frequencies, but it's not all on them this time.

Someone's going to be an airline pilot!

There recently was the discussion comparing Jordan's thread and journey to Loren's. Both are awesome because both of these guys - no matter the differences in their life stages and their career paths forward - are absolutely loving life and have such great attitudes about what everyday brings...
