Yeah, it needed a drogue chute or a helicopter (CH-47) that has a two point hook up. Of course these guys were going way too fast as well.

First, you damage a perfectly good helicopter while trying to land at over 11,000 ft. Then, the MI-17 sling loads said helicopter and gets jettisoned because of instability. :rolleyes:

Exactly. My brother lives in Abilene and they routinely get 30 kt winds with over 40 kt gusts. I tell him about EMS bases here for turning down flights with 15 kts. Heck, Ive taken a flight from a “competitor” turndown with 10 G 12kts and not a single PIREP / AIRMET for mod turb. Their...

Well with 30 kt winds with a witness reporting 43 kt winds, if it ain’t of the nose in a small helicopter, you’re gonna get into loss of tail rotor effectiveness.

I remember in Iraq right before I got there a PFC was killed and a SGT lost his arms when they over inflated a UH-60 tire. Can happen with car tires as well.
