"Make you cockerel crow" and other obsolete aviations terms

I use wilco pretty much everyday at work. If I’m not doing a read back and I’m given an instruction, I’m using wilco.

    Kedarnath Follies

One time in Germany, I was trail in a 4 ship slinging a generator in a Humvee trailer. Thing only weighed 3,500 lbs so it’s light and draggy. Anything above around 60 kts and it was violent. Crew chief kept telling me “slow down sir, this things swinging all over the place!” As if I didn’t know...

    Kedarnath Follies

Yeah, it needed a drogue chute or a helicopter (CH-47) that has a two point hook up. Of course these guys were going way too fast as well.

    Kedarnath Follies

First, you damage a perfectly good helicopter while trying to land at over 11,000 ft. Then, the MI-17 sling loads said helicopter and gets jettisoned because of instability.

    Hello Crash at 62S

Well you try to do that for an easier load on the crew. In my company we shoot for a 9 o’clock load because that’s easiest and it’s a good (high) spot on the rotor disk for safety. But, no way with the winds given I’d be moving my tail around for easier load on the crew. Heck, in my area you’d...

    Check out those expressions

Looks like a Grob 115 and that’s the expression of “man, I wish I would’ve gotten hull insurance!”

    Hello Crash at 62S

Well with 30 kt winds with a witness reporting 43 kt winds, if it ain’t of the nose in a small helicopter, you’re gonna get into loss of tail rotor effectiveness.

2 Delta workers killed at ATL after tire explosion 8/27/24

I remember in Iraq right before I got there a PFC was killed and a SGT lost his arms when they over inflated a UH-60 tire. Can happen with car tires as well.
