More (or mandatory) parachutes will save lives....too many fatalities

Yes, you do, or you wouldn't have written it. Things like this are always emotional knee-jerk reactions. The thing that would really limit airplane accidents is mandatory scrapping of all airplanes. Think of the children.

    Any old timers fly "A's & N's" ?

I guess there were lots of techniques, I tended to fly them as a sort of elliptical holding pattern getting lower as you approach the station, then climbing as you get further away, but with no formal "approach" vs "missed approach"

    Any old timers fly "A's & N's" ?

central africa. They also had DME-only approaches with no course guidance, something I assumed was normal at the time.

Is it worth installing a 300xl?

Thanks, I thought it was a good deal and maybe someday as more NDB's get turned off it will be worthwhile, but I have to say that for flying around in the midwest US even that amount is a waste as far as actually enabling trips, getting better routings, etc. it just doesn't make any difference...

    Who's got your logs?

mine are in cardboard boxes on a shelf in the hangar. The boxes have written in black marker "Beechcraft logs", "Piper Logs", etc. I'd guess a highly trained government investigator may be able to locate them with some effort.

Is it worth installing a 300xl?

I did a few years ago, a 300, no XL. Got the radio for about $1200, another $800 for an indicator and annunciator, messed around on the installation myself and and horsetraded for a sign-off of it. Yes it's an antique but i went from /A to /G for <$2500 which seems like a good deal to me.

Big price increase for landing in Rhode Island

Let's keep it in perspective. If generic county, TX gets expensive, people will land in the adjacent county. It's pretty much the same thing.

    College degrees and flying

I would say the opposite. Businesses are run by people who know the business. They learn the business by working in a job that requires skills. The skills start with a degree in something needed by the business. That's not a degree in business.

of those 2, go for psychology. I've flown with lots of pilots for whom I wished I had a psychologist handy.

    normal, crazy or not sure

I'll spend lots of $$ and time to shoot some food in the woods vs going to the local butcher. I'll spend lots of $$ and countless hours all summer tending a garden to yield enough peas and tomatoes for maybe 3 meals. We have more $$ in airplanes than in our house. Check, check, and...

Weak points as new IFR student

Don't know what specific concern you have, but to offer a general observation, many people tend to do too much steering. Whether you're driving a tractor, boat, horse, or airplane, less is more when it comes to control inputs. In the case of an airplane tracking a radial, make a small course...
