Looking at IFR aircraft - question on avionics

If your goal is a plane to do the instrument with you can spend 1/4 the amount for a decent C150. A few months ago I got a 66 C150 to do my instrument with. Never been a flight school trainer, 400+ SMOH (first overhaul) 2 VORs one with glideslope, minimal but totally adequate for the training...

    Transponder Problem?

Sweet! I've been having poor reports on mine too and my I.A. told me to clean the antenna and I thought, "yeah right, like that's gonna help!". Will be cleaning it before next flight!

    dutch roll terminology

Whether you lead with rudder or not depends on the aircraft. The other term for Dutch roll is Rolling on a Point. As I understand and teach it the idea is to bank left and right but reversing bank before a turn begins, while keeping the aircraft pointed at a fixed point, in other words not...

If Armstrong and Aldrin got stuck on the lunar surface...

That might be interesting. I know that Howard and Hanks are loyal fans of the real story.

If Armstrong and Aldrin got stuck on the lunar surface...

Well, the zero G scenes look rushed and you can see everything wobbling in the turbulence. Most people wouldn't notice but as a pilot it wrecked it for me. There was no getting around the fact that they were flying short duration arcs. But I appreciated the effort that went into it. What...

If Armstrong and Aldrin got stuck on the lunar surface...

Yes, they basically did but not precisely as depicted in the movie. The book, Lost Moon is so much more complete and accurate then the movie. I made the mistake of reading the book first so the movie, Apollo 13 came off like a cartoon. The fake zero G scenes in 2001 are better then the "real"...

    Bought an airplane

Flight to Paris one of my favorite Fly Baby flights... Fall of 2011 Flight to Paris I had an especially long day in 48ML yesterday. The mission was a non stop flight to Paris! Paris Illinois that is, and return. Paris is in east central Illinois and Ames is in the center of Iowa. The...

    Bought an airplane

It is SO sweet not worrying about time or cost when you go flying. Priceless! That canopy design might be ingenious but if it gets damaged it will be easy to fix. Trust me, nothing to it. Just wood, glue, screws, and lexan.

    Bought an airplane

I'm thrilled that Jesse got my plane. He's the perfect pilot and owner for it. It is an amazing machine. I enjoyed every minute of orienting Jesse to all it's characteristics and features. I put a lot into that plane over the last 6 years and I feel like Jesse and I are blood brothers now...
