I'm heading to Vegas tomorrow so I'm stretching the timeline for planning things to do. I went on a discovery flight in Maine to see lighthouses and the bell just ring in my head that I could do something similar this trip to Vegas and fly the Grand Canyon. Anyone have recommendations...

    Pilot physical vs regular physical

thanks for the input. this will be my 3rd FAA medical exam and nothing has changed so I should pass it.. but I am of the age to start prostate exams so I guess I won't use the FAA medical in place of a regular physical exam. when I call in for my FAA medical i'll ask about making it...

    Pilot physical vs regular physical

It's time for my private pilot medical exam and wonder if it is as comprehensive as a regular medical physical exam. I have not had a regular medical physical in over 15 years, hence my question. So if I go this month for my pilot physical will that clean bill of health be good...

i'm planning to fly from Houston to Alpine, TX (just southeast of El Paso) today and fly back Sunday... VFR flying there is no problem. flying back sunday, however, looks like it may be iffy due to cloud cover... unfortunately, i'm on an iPhone so the forecast cloud cover maps...

Pizza Foundation Marfa needs your help

Yes and it's actually very interesting to see, if you're into that sort of thing. It's perplexing trying to figure out what they are as well as a nice quiet place to hang out and watch the stars. Last time I was there an amateur astronomer had his telescope out and I was able to see...

Pizza Foundation Marfa needs your help

I'd actually prefer to land in marfa instead of alpine if the rental car can be picked up in marfa instead. The problem is the mountains between alpine and marfa and getting over them in my pa28-180. Coming in at 8500 wouldnt be an issue. Its leaving heading home that wouldbe a problem.

Pizza Foundation Marfa needs your help

Speaking of marfa, I'll be there mis February. I've landed in alpine before so I'm somewhat familiar with the area. Since I may be arriving at night and from Houston, would flying into marfa be any more or less of a hassle than alpine? I ask this because alpine airport has...

    The 'rachet' method for landings

Folks with thumb mounted trim control do this, at least i do. I simply start flaring by thumbing back and dont thumb forward unless very necessary.

Cleared through bravo but not in bravo

That's entirely possible. It's been a couple of weeks. But he specifically did mention bravo and not in the context of stay out of bravo. So I have wondered why even mention it if I'm not going through it.

Cleared through bravo but not in bravo

Recently I flew from Houston to new orleans via vfr with flight following. Atc said I was cleared through bravo but to stay below X altitude. This altitude was below the bravo shelf so I was never given an altitude that put me into bravo airspace. So what was the purpose of clearing...

Anyone here ever fly with their sheriff's aero squadron?

I'm 800 hours short and many certifications shy to offer my services. At 75 hours a year it's going to take me quite a while to even get the minimum qualification. http://www.hcsoreservecommand.org/sod.html

Fellow Student's First Solo; Southwest B737: "Go Get 'Em"

Cool for 8me! I was nervous with my first solo And I even had the whole airport to myself. I can't imagine being at 8me's field with all the big planes watching me my first go around.

this time last year I went in for 4 crowns and 3 out of 4 quadrants of my mouth were numbed... luckily my brother drove from Houston to Austin because that evening riding back I was crying as the pain killer wore off..... this will be just a filling so minor work comparatively.. no adverse...

    flying after visiting the dentist?

i have a dental appointment at 2:30pm tomorrow in Austin so I could either drive or fly... I know i'll have a filling done on a tooth so that quadrant of my mouth will be numb for a few hours. but since there's no timeline for me to get back I can wait to come back later in the day. but...

How am I supposed to know what I'm supposed to know?

In hindsight using "unfamiliar" or standard nomenclature or even asking for vectors would have done it. Sing my first time into KSAT and being told to head to the VOR when less than 2 minutes from the field flustered me and my training went out the window. On the plus side, that's more...
