    [NA]Size this UPS/surge suppressor[NA]

I've been really happy with my APS UPS that protects a good sized 4 disk Dell tower server, lcd monitor, and several external hard drives. We've had it over two years, it has always worked. I've set it up to shut down the server if the UPS battery gets low. It's done that once, IRRC. I...

Air Force Turns Off GPS for Training

I think they were jamming gps, not changing anything on the gps system itself.

I'm French and I'll come to USA

Here in Austin I'm pretty sure a French two year EE degree would be plenty to get a tech job in QA, testing, help desk, etc. No need to work at McDonalds.

Using the word "traffic" at the end of approach and landing call outs

The color of your Cessna means nothing, use the last 3 characters of your N number. This is especialy helpful to pilots with a good ads-b in display. ‘Traffic’ after airport name, that is enough ‘traffic’.

    Air Force evaluating enlisted pilots.

The Air Force is going to run a test of using cutting edge training stuff to get 15 guys up to T-6 solo quickly. Ten non-rated officers and 5 enlisted members. The officers will get to go to 'real' USAF pilot training, the enlisted will go to their regular jobs. This is an experiment, and...

    The phrase "With You"

"with you" should be banned. It's a silly way to garbage up a frequency. But if you want to sound like a dork and add garbage to the frequency, "with you" is really pretty lame. I recommend: "annnnnnnnndddddddddddddddddd Podunk Approach Cessna triple four five sugar pop with you at at 5...

210- gear won't retract- still make flight?

If the gear won't retract then for sure fly it gear down only. Even that has some increased risk. 'Pumping it up', even if it were possible, is crazy talk.

Anybody installed Trio or Tru Trak in Cessna yet?

My understanding is that the certified TruTrack and Trio autopilots don't include a magnetic compass sensor, hence they can only fly tracks, not headings.

US Sport Aircraft vs American Flyers - KADS

I did some training at American Flyers last year. They mentioned that a number of their CFI program grads were teaching at the US Sport and seemed proud of that.

The hand held vhf transceiver that I want

Thanks Shawn, the A-14 looks like what I want. The FAQ says you can just type in a frequency without programming, and the AA pack is available. They sure are proud of the accessories! Thanks!

The hand held vhf transceiver that I want

Since we've been talking handheld lately I thought I'd jump in with my wish list. Note: I'm old, but I'm not a luddite. I've had a computer since 1976 and recently retired from software development. Here is my usecase: I am on the ramp at Bergstrom. Before I power up the airplane I...

No traffic advisories in a MOA?

I shudder when I hear civilian GA pilots talking about how much fun it is to fly through a hot MOA. And btw, that F-16 does have an air-to-air radar, but he's not using it to look for your fliver. It's not like TCAS.

Donald Trump signed an exec order to fix Pilot shortage in the Air Force

The USAF will never force guys out of retirement. What will happen is much easier and cheaper: The USAF is going to start 'stop loss' to prevent guys from leaving a the end of their commitments. This will happen in 2018. You heard it here first.

    New to pilot training

I do agree that a young student pilot looking at a career should be sure he or she can pass a class one physical. If he has medical issues now ,what will happen in 15years?

Donald Trump signed an exec order to fix Pilot shortage in the Air Force

Nobody is being reactivated to sit in a cockpit. The USAF wants bodys to sit in staff cubicles and do Powerpoints. http://www.military.com/daily-news/2017/10/04/if-youre-retired-pilot-air-force-wants-you-back.html

Cessna 182 Uneven Fuel Burn - Is It The Vent Or Is It....

I've never seen a 182 with an on/off fuel selector either. All 177RG's after 1971 have on/off/both/l/r also. The 1971RG has two real mags, starting sometime later they switched to the notorious 'D' (for dangerous) fake dual mags. I agree, three bladed props on a 200hp engine is silly at...

Cessna 182 Uneven Fuel Burn - Is It The Vent Or Is It....

Just crush that 182 and buy a 1971 Cardinal RG. Besides getting a wider cabin, you get the on/off fuel selector from the C-150. So when you get uneven fuel flow you can either go nuts with the rudder to try and clear the vent (and then have to clean up passenger puke), or do what the cool...

Why bother with flaps on takeoff?

The C177RG really, really wants 10degrees of flap for any take off when heavy, hot, or a short runway is involved. Don't ask me how I know.
