I don't see any CYA going on...Pilot flying VFR and not receiving FF does a CFIT. They could have used FF. They could have filed IFR. They could have asked for clearance into Bravo (you can't say it's too hard to get in if you never ask to be let in,,,). Heck; they could have used a $500.00...

While checking for good grounds be sure to check the engine/engine mount to fuselage ground. A poor or intermittant ground to the engine can cause all sorts of interesting whines, pops, crackles and instrument fluctuations. Just something else you might check... Chris

Jeanie; My Hartzell will throw a small amount of grease when it's cold out and it was just rebuilt (+100hrs). Though a consult with a good prop shop is a wise move don't get despondant yet...it might just be a seal that needed exercising. Chris

I use an X-acto knife (hobby knife) to cut away the filter pleats from the metal web that runs from top to bottom and a hacksaw blade to cut thru the pleats from around the filter top and bottom. After finishing the filter inspection I wash everything including my face and hands in 100LL to...

Danny; If possible go to an airport where landing long won't damage you or your plane (a really beautiful plane BTW!) and bump up your speed to at least 90 over the fence until you get used to her...no need to come in flatter than a normal type of approach (500 fpm decent) at 90-100. Ditto 1/4...

With 7HT I'm downwind @ 100mph, 1/2 flaps and 90 mph on crosswind, final and over the fence. Rollout under 2000' every time. Under 1000' if I want to! Once you get in the flare she bleeds speed quickly...touchdown is 80 or so and comes pretty quick. You can fly it around the pattern with 1/2...

Silly question: To bring a (let's say) 1940 Piper Cub into LSA territory does it have to be de-registered from a Standard AW certificate and re-regictered as an LSA? The next semester of A&P skool will include this stuff but I don't want to wait that long for the answer...:D...
