    LightSpeed service?

I bought an unbranded Lightspeed ANR headset during my training. The mic boom broke off earlier this year (about 2 years after purchase). I called them and they repaired it no questions asked. Recently the same headset earpiece broke off. I called, but they told me they no longer had parts...

    Trim question...

Checklist full flap approach speed in the arrow is 90mph. Over the numbers speed will be lower, and if light I will use something closer to 85mph on approach, but that thing sinks like a rock. For short field, I will use 80mph and it will sit down quickly and firmly.

    A delay in power input

Was it too rich? It has been cooler out recently at least in the midwest. When running really rich, I have noticed a bit of a hiccup when applying throttle.

    Trim question...

I have had some questions in my mind about trimming during landing as well. Since my training, I set/adjust the trim to get to my approach speed of 90mph with full flaps (for the arrow), fly it to the runway, and pull back some yoke to gently level and flare until the plane kisses the runway...

    Pipistrel Panthera

Mooney Acclaim maybe, although I don't think it is quite 17gph. I definitely think the Panthera is a winner. I wish I could afford one!

    Checkride Questions?

I would say do what you are comfortable with. I went ahead with my check ride with gusty winds over 20knots (60-70 degrees x-wind to the main runway). My landings were poor in those conditions, so I was given a disapproval, but the examiner let me complete the rest of the test so that I just...

    In shock....Bears win

Unfair comment...they were in the superbowl 7 years ago. Now if you want to talk about my Cubs and the WS....

    In shock....Bears win

I didn't think my Bears had a chance in hell with their defense being what it is. Before the game I told my wife GB should just sit Rodgers so it would be a game. It turns out that kind of happened. I'll take it, but with that defense, I don't think they are going anywhere.

This is a shortfield take off!

If you like watching short take offs, you should pull up the youtube clips of the Carbon Cub SS demonstrations. That plane is ridiculous. Hit the throttle and off you go. Almost as good as a helicopter.

Any feedback on 2-blade scimitar for Arrow?

No other mods that I am aware of. It isn't much of a plane to look at actually, but the engine and prop only have a few hundred hours on them. The other guys in the partnership know the history of it better than I do, and their comment was that the Q tip scimitar really improved the cruise...

    Preparing for Checkride

Here are the things I wish I would have done before my checkride: If your examiner is at a different airport than your home base (as in my case), make sure you get some solo work at that location. If you have access to another instructor, have him give you a mock checkride. I know I was very...

    Transponder specs

Thanks a lot. This is great information. Where can I find a white paper or more detailed info on the pulse timing, modulation, etc?

    Transponder specs

As a RF engineer, I can't help my curiosity. After my plane's transponder went out, I was looking around at replacements and noticed that they are rated at 200W of transmit power. That seems ridiculously high for small aircraft. I had no idea they put out that much power. I am trying to...

Renter's Insurance - AOPA? Other? Experiences?

I purchased the AOPA basic rental policy after I got my PPL. I think is the $175 a year that you mentioned. I luckily bought into a partnership that carries insurance for us on our plane, but kept the rental policy in case I need to rent. Depending on where you rent from, you may need a solid...

Decent ANR headsets on a budget

Over the past few years, I have bought 3 Victor1 - ANR headsets (made by Lightspeed but not branded as such) from Tinaspilotshop in Texas. Tina has provided great service, and Lightspeed honored the warranty fully when one broke. I don't know if they are still available or not, but you can...

    End to high/low wing debate?

Maybe it was just a matter of having more experience when I flew the 172 vs the Cherokees, but compared to landing the low wings, it seemed like a monkey could land the 172. Maybe it is because I learned on the Warrior and Archer and didn't fly the 172 until I had my license. That big steel...

    Lightspeed Kudos

I had a great experience with them as well. I had a low end LS headset, and they repaired it no questions asked. My next headset will be a LS.

    Flying to Des Moines

Probably depends on what you are trying to do. Services / fuel are pricy at DSM, but it isn't that busy. The charlie airspace around here is easy to fly in.

    Piper Arrow?

My arrow 2 does an honest 140knots at 9.5 to 10 gph. The scimitar prop is what gets it to 140. 125 for a turbo or na arrow sounds like there is an issue. Depending on your budget, get a Mooney 252 and do 190knots at altitude.
