Colorado Front Range Transponder VFR Certification

It's time for a transponder certification. The local guy at Meadow Lake only does IFR level certifications and charges accordingly. I only need a VFR certification and would prefer to pay for that level. Does the Colorado group have shop suggestions and cost estimates for this service? Scott

    Begin tailwheel training

"But I will probably use my headset and portable radio when I am flying it by myself. For now, the CFI's way is the way" Consider borrowing (or heaven forbid, buy) a battery powered portable intercom and ask your CFI to use it with you. It will be every bit as much flying with ear protection...

    My failed checkride

Congratulations on getting most of it. I have no doubt you will get the balance on the next flight. I believe a DPE check ride is really a quality control check on your CFI. Your CFI's recommendation is the real evaluation of whether you are qualified to hold the certificate you seek. It...

    go around on parallel runways

Come down to KFLY - Meadow Lake Airport near Colorado Springs. Runway 15 is paved and a parallel grass strip is off to the right used by gliders and their tow plane. Uncontrolled field (as in no control tower). I believe Boulder Colorado has a similar situation. The old Fort Collins Downtown...

Learning the Luscombe (and an introduction)

I watched the videos after reading the comments and I expected more exciting deviations than I saw. I think you're doing fine. I have three comments to add: First, thanks for having a video camera that doesn't turn the propeller into a scimitar, and thanks for leaving off the music track...

How long does it take you to get to your airplane?

30 miles, 35 minutes . One convenience is that I can plan on my take off time being one hour from the time I leave my garage. At least the math is easy. This only true if I remember to bring my hangar key. If ever do that again, I will have to consider selling the plane. Scott

    Name the plane

That appears to be a Mini-Max, one of a family of designs by Wayne Ison. Some can be built as part 103 ultralights, but most are too heavy and are licensed as experimental amateur-built. Plans and kits are available at: http://www.jdtmini-max.com/

    Wits End

OP, You have received some good advice, some of it contradictory. You know which of it appeals to you and that is a good indication of which to follow. I would add that you should not jump to a new job or career until you have sorted out what you want and assessed the probability that the new...

It's time to talk about floatplanes and flying boats

Any of Glenn Curtiss's very early waterborne aircraft. Curtiss was so instrumental in the development of and wide acceptance of aviation that he should have a suite in any aviation themed venue.

I believe the structures are ammunition bunkers. Both Grand Island and Sydney had WWII ammunition depots.
