1-2 place homebuilt for tall guy

I too have been pondering this question. My concerns on the Pietenpol are both leg room and ease of getting in and out of the rear cockpit. The forward cockpit seems like it would be tight for anyone older than 10. Anyone care to comment on those two issues. Second question, has anyone any...

FAA requires older Piper planes to be checked for damaged cables

So how much is a set of rudder, elevator cables and, if appropriate trim cables? I haven't read the AD as I don't have a Piper, but what would it cost to replace the cable set every 15 years?

    joys of home ownership

Problem: Answer: http://www.sharkbiteplumbing.com/ The fittings seem a little expensive the first time you buy them, but after you use them once, they are an amazing value. Scott

    Seminole vs Duchess

I'm confused (not an infrequent condition) but I thought the original post was about 6 place airplanes. Are any of the airplanes discussed so far in this thread 6 place? 700 pounds in the cabin would mean 6 very petite folks even if you had enough chairs. So are we talking 6 places or leaving...

High performance or tailwheel endorsement ?

Why not get all three endorsements, tailwheel, complex and high performance, in the same airplane and at the same time? Let's assume we stick with civilian single engine airplanes. Lets see, the "ideal" airplane for me would be the Beech Model 17; a slightly more "practical" ride would be a 210...

    What is Portland Maine like

I have not been to Maine, but when I go, I'm going to visit this place: http://vintagewings-millersfield.com/index.html It's near Newburgh, Maine. Perhaps the website overstates its beauty, but I am still planning to land my Luscombe there. Might just stay if it feels right. Scott

    I have plans

I rise in objection. The gentle Lady from New York has misused the term retirement. I argue that her own statements prove my case that "reload" is more proper in her case. Seriously, I hope the gentle Lady from New York will print two copies of her original post, delivering the first to the...

    Insurance Solo Requirement

Rusty, Congratulations on your new-to-you Bonanza. You will enjoy this airplane a lot! Now, may I suggest a different point of view? Thanks. Your insurance company has given you permission to do everything in your new airplane that you planned to do when you bought it, but you can't take a...

    New "Membership Benefits" from AOPA

I am pretty much opposed to paying for a second class membership in an organization. I've been a member of AOPA since 1973 and I find the two tier pricing/benefits packaging to be in conflict with my values of what a voluntary membership organization should be. I've already experienced an...

    Cessna 140

Luscombes come in 65, 75, 85 and 90 hp versions. Some have been upgraded to 100 hp. Some have electrical systems and starters, some don't. I personally would avoid one altered to any of the Lycoming 115 to 150 hp for reasons of appearance, poor useful load and my respect for tradition. Older...

    first Amtrak ride

Fun bet: I will wager that no one can drive a Model T from DC to Chicago and average 34 mph or greater. A friend of mine has flown as a contract Falcon 2000 pilot for an individual who had significant investments in the railroad business. The pilot learned that the average speed for a freight...

    Beech F33A

FWIW, I believe the center opening windows are ground operation only but their primary value is as emergency exits. One pulls a pin in the latch mechanism and the window may be flipped fully open for egress. The center windows are restricted against opening for in-flight ventilation.

    Can a PPL do it?

Given that the Interstate Commerce Commission was abolished some 17 years ago, I don't imagine our private pilot would hear much of anything from them.

    Google office suite (professional)

Oh come on now: Recording text: a fine goose quill on parchment. Editing text: recopy page on a new sheet of parchment, omitting the error. And we had it good. My dad had to use a chisel on slate, after he quarried the slate . . . and forged the chisel over an open fire made from buffalo...

    FSS frequencies

/DenverPyle*ModeON/ Well sonny, back in the day, we had radios called one-and-a-half systems, that is a com transmitter and a combined com and nav receiver (i.e. Narco Superhomer). The com transmitter was limited to a few crystal-controlled frequencies; you had to buy the specific frequencies...

Would you take a total stranger along in your GA airplane?

Just the other day, a fellow walked up to me as I was putting the Luscombe back in the hangar and asked if I remembered him. I gave him that befuddled look that says no without having to say "should I?" He then reminded me that I had given him his first airplane ride ever, in that Luscombe, when...

Colorado Front Range Transponder VFR Certification

BTIZ: I don't know his reasons for running his business as he does, but I respect his right to do so. He offers a service and I choose not to buy unless my only other options cost more. Spending $200 on gas to fly round trip to another shop to save $100 on the fee wouldn't make sense and I...
