    Firearms/knives/weapons on GA aircraft

To the OP. The less intimidating, snarky pic is the way to go. A 4oz bottle of gel, maybe an open bottle of water, a nail file or nail clippers with the tiny blade in there, utility knife, a lighter, and 2 carry ons! You know... All the real dangerous stuff.

    Sign-In Sheet

Eh. If some one asks me to sign in I do. Doesn't bother me one way or another. However if you do, it should be for a good reason. Not just a guestbook of sorts as Shawn mentioned.

Cirrus down under chute in NC, right next to house. No injuries.

So the definition of literally is literally no longer literal? Interesting.

    Retractable confidence

Training is key. My first plane was a retract and the insurance company required 15 hrs since I was relatively low time, like yourself. It was well worth it. All the advice on here is great, but having someone next to you as you practice and get used to it is worth every penny IMHO.

PIC as Student Pilot on Solo flights?

You guys realize you're being trolled, right? "Funny how you guys get riled up over it" as Glen puts it, is the definition of a troll. One who seeks amusement in riling others up.

    CFI for dangerous case?

The last CFI had the right idea. Have a straight conversation with him. Tell him you can't support him flying solo and if he does, that's the end of it. It may end the arrangement but you'll know you didn't support him killing himself and you didn't take advantage of the situation by agreeing...

    1.3 billion Powerball next Wednesday

Interesting article on the subject. "Nationwide on average people who make less than $10,000 spend $597 on lottery". A whopping 6% of their income. http://www.vox.com/identities/2016/1/13/10763268/lottery-poor-prey

Being a Jones myself, I think I need one of those rocket powered go karts. Ya know... Give the neighbors something to strive for. :)

What to do with $500MM Powerball?

I just read that the playboy mansion is going up for a cool $200M next month if you need something to spend it on. Problem is it comes with an 89 yo tenant in his jammies.

    KVGT, KLAS training question.

That's why we fly isn't it? To travel? I'm in IL. Didn't know I was only supposed to use local instructors for an IFR finish up course. Not only did the OP ask for instructors "not at the usual flight schools", which seems to be what you offered, he didn't stipulate it had to be in Vegas...

    KVGT, KLAS training question.

I was scheduled for a week long finish up course with Scott Best in NC the last week in Jan. Due to timing I am having to cancel. I can't comment on the quality of his training since I haven't gone through the course yet although I do plan to reschedule. He may now have an open slot at the...

    Foreflight traffic

I have had a strange situation happen 3 times now with foreflight traffic turned on. All of a sudden there is a target showing up on the screen as yellow or red because it is right on top of me. The first time I thought - holy crap, this guys right under me! I veer left - Crap! He's...

The little button with the power sign on it that turns the light on? Yep. Found it. :). And yeah I can definitely tell the difference without a good seal. That FAA doc seems to say the Viking is quieter than the bo, the 182 and others. Unless I'm reading it wrong I might question their...

I did kinda deserve that. I'll have to look at some of these foam options too. The Viking is a fabric plane so not a lot of barrier I suspect.

That would be one heck of a switch from a Viking to a glider, even one with a little motor. A recent trip from Chicago to Maine left my ears ringing for 2 weeks. I use the Viking for our family of 3 for xc. ~300 - 600 NM. Similar to the headphones, Is there enough difference in planes...
