    Non TSO'd radio

I have an A-200, and love it. Great radio. And no, the radio does not need to be TSOd. The KX-170 is non-TSOd (the one that a zillion planes have in them), the KX-175 is TSOd.

    Nice car engine animation

Increased induction resistance means increased parasitic loss and lower efficiency.

    Beechcraft Sierra Questions

I have looked high and low for information on the incidence change mod, and have not been able to find anything. Can you point to it?

    Absolutes in Aviation

There are rules, and there are laws. Rules are made by consensus of people in offices, many of whom have never piloted an airplane. Laws are made by the almighty, and include the laws of physics and the law of gravity. Rules, at times, must be ignored. Laws, however, cannot be broken.

    Woot! Thanks, y'all -- and a gift!

Congrats, Jay! As you say, the award says it all. No one will ever know the work you put into being at this place. Now if you weren't half a continent away, we'd be there soon..... Alan

    POSSIBLE Nexus 7 killer/competitor

The 8.3 inch size. The full size IPad is too big for the cockpit, the Mini's screen resolution is so small I needed my bifocals to use it. The Nexus 7 is just a bit too small. I use it because the big IPad interferes with the yoke or blocks instruments. The 8.3 may be the perfect size.

Do speed mods = increased fuel economy?

+1 on the powerflow. Know that in Cherokee 180s below serial number ~4000, there is no powerflow available. There wasn't enough performance increase available to be worth certification.

Do speed mods = increased fuel economy?

This. With Cherokees, Hoerner tips and aeileron gap seals do have a significant impact on slow speed handling and rate of climb, marginal in speed. They are worth it for the handling improvement. Get the LED landing light (I did). you're not running wires out to the tips, you have...

Yep. That's why I put an LED landing light in.

Liability Concerns Raised Over ISU President Flying

As I say frequently about politicians.... Big deal, we'll get another. We were looking for a {mayor/gov/senator} when we found that one.

    Weird Spam

Oh yeah, what does the email say? Did someone send spam with your email address as the reply-to, and you're getting the bouncebacks?

    Weird Spam

Sounds like your provider had a filter problem. Around 60% of all email on the internet is spam, and your email provider intercepts a lot before it gets to you. Then questionable things go in your spam folder for your review. Company spam filters partially fail from time to time, and we...

    New Orleans! Any suggestions?

Have to go once, but once is enough. Unfortunately it's pure tourist trap nowadays. Take the streetcar out to Loyola and Tulane (they're beautiful), stop at Zea's restaurant at St Charles & Melpomene (get the corn grits). If you find yourself on Bourbon St saying "we've got time for a...

Radio issues: carrier only, no voice

Also, have you made sure the intercom is off, forcing its failover mode? If there's a difference when intercom is on vs off, then you have definitively isolated the issue to the intercom.

    Hangar Damage

No. If he did the report as an accident, or as a criminal mischief, either way the report requires a damage estimate. We make SWAGs of damage all the time, because the box has to be filled. We know they are guesses and mean absolutely nothing. That's especially true in car accidents, where...

    Unleaded 100 octane AvGas update

And that's a flawed assumption. I have driven CNG vehicles, which from the driving and fueling process is very similar to H2. No issues there. The problem is, the process of creating H2 requires FAR more energy than you get. Now you can use solar or wind or somesuch, but energy is...

    Writing effective checklists

Developing a checklist helps build your knowledge of systems. I developed my own, but use a commercial laminated checklist. The development process helped my understanding. For example, in my Cherokee, once I had a better understanding of the fuel system, my current procedure is different...
