    High oil temp question

For a rental, or in flight, assume the plane is broke. For an owner trying to troubleshoot, always start with the gauge. More often the gauge is wrong. We just chased a high oil pressure reading. 1- Applied regulated pressure to the panel gauge, the gauge reads dead on what the regulated...

FAA adds another hoop for medicals

So, when does this new standard take effect? Immediately on announcement?

Ohio has begun arresting drivers for "hidden compartments" in vehicles

DING DING DING! And they find out it's there via Confidential Informants, or flipping someone one someone else. What this statute does is allow them to get a warrant for a vehicle based on the fact that it has a compartment (based on testimony from the witness/informant/undercover), rather...

Police stop drivers at roadblock, ask for hair, saliva and blood

I could argue that the presence of a lawful criminal justice purpose is what differentiates a detention from false imprisonment. :D No one has the right to stop or hold another against their will, except as permitted by law. If this wasn't a criminal justice purpose, then the authority to stop...

FCC might allow cell phones on airline flights: good or bad?

No kidding! You can sell the ability to use a cell phone in flight. Then auction the ability to shut the system off.

FCC might allow cell phones on airline flights: good or bad?

Please God, no! If they do this, they'll need a LOT more Air Marshals.

Police stop drivers at roadblock, ask for hair, saliva and blood

Thanks! Figure out how to make my knee, hip, and back work right again, and I would take you up on it.

Police stop drivers at roadblock, ask for hair, saliva and blood

I'm sure you have. I'm a graveyard patrol cop at heart. The problem is you have the act and the motive backward. The act taken determines if it's a detention (was the person told, or would they reasonably have believed, that they were not free to leave?), the follow on is to determine if...

Police stop drivers at roadblock, ask for hair, saliva and blood

No. A detention means stopping someone involuntarily under color of law. This wasn't a detour, it was forcing people off the road, into a queue, where they then were made to interact with the government contractors, whether they wanted to or not. This is exactly identical to a DUI...

New Pilot -- Should I Buy a Cheetah or Hold Out For A Tiger?

No one was ever happy they bought the slower one with the smaller engine. (whether planes, cars, or boats). The costs to step up are significant. I am wishing I had bought the Comanche I was thinking about instead of the Cherokee. I can't justify the loss in invested money starting over...

Police stop drivers at roadblock, ask for hair, saliva and blood

That's what I would go with. To answer another's question, does an officer have to arrest you to give you a lawful order? No. You can be detained. There is a definitive legal difference between 'detention' and 'arrest'. Detention is based on reasonable suspicion that you are, have, or are...

No, it's exactly the same advice.

Bill to Simplify Certification Passes Congress

That's exactly right I had this chat with my A&P. He will get the install labor for an autopilot and EMS the first year. Then an EFIS, then all lights and strobes changed to LED, then whatever else I change later. None of the would happen with certified gear. The folks that are...

    Aviation Auction

Homeland Security funding is WAY down, it had been significantly cut before sequestration began, and has come down even more since (but, NV is the home of the Senate Majority Leader, so anything in possible).

    Flying to FL, suggestions?

Heresy! Plus, if we had to drive a rental car around, we'd never make it to 3/4ths of the places we're going. FL was made for light aircraft. This'll be the 2nd time I've flown to FL, plus a trip to DC, one to MO, and several to Texas. I fly commercial for work, because I have to.

Police stop drivers at roadblock, ask for hair, saliva and blood

+1, I could not have said it better. As most here know, I'm a retired cop. I generally support and give the cops the benefit of the doubt, especially when they have to make decisions in seconds. That said, this is pure BS. Forcing them off the road is a detention, and unlawful, and no...

OK, Pensacola it is! There are two open days in the schedule. Thinking about St Augustine. Any other suggestions? I don't know the east coast of FL well at all.

My ladyfriend smells like smoked meats

Talk about first-world problems...... I married a tomboy with hints of girly-girl, it's worked out well. She is tomboy enough to love OSH, the girly-girl is just enough to prevent camping on site. That's a good trade.... Low maintenance is good, son. Henning's Ferrari analogy is spot on.
