    TSA disarms sock monkey!

Only because prior experience had been to go along to Cuba or wherever, let the guy get off, then go home. 9/11 was a one-shot event. That tactic was obsolete the same afternoon when the passengers on Flight 93 learned what was in mind. They used the SYSTEM and its ASSUMPTIONS against us...

    Icy Runways

Depends. Slush I stay away from for the reasons above. Hard ice, no problem. On an slick runway, you "fly" the plane down the runway/taxiway, understanding that the flight controls have more effect than the wheels. On one very slick taxiway with a significant wind, it was throttle and...

    Mikhail Kalashnikov Dies At 94

According to DuffelBlog, Gen Kalashnikov will be buried in a mud pit for week, then pulled out, hosed off, and put back to work.

Commercial Flying Woes, the reason most of us fly!

I always pay for economy plus. If you want the space, bust out the credit card. Otherwise, STFU. With a past broken back and coccyx, and a badly arthritic hip and knee, I have to recline and lay sideways on anything more than a 90 minute flight. The angles of an airline seat are perfectly...

    AmEx Card Extended Warranty

It may be bank-dependent. I have disputed two charges in the last two years (one AMEX, one Visa), and in both cases they credited the charges instantly. Of course, one was for an excursion in Mexico cancelled for weather, and when we asked for a refund "the machine is broken".

    Why we carry flashlights...

No such thing. I spent 15 years as a night shift cop. In night operations, losing your flashlight at the wrong time = death. Bulbs blow, batteries fail, lights get lost in foot chases or dropped in fights. On my belt I carried a full size Streamlight (with a spare bulb in the tail)...

    AmEx Card Extended Warranty

I've used it for damage, but not for theft. No problem, no hassle. Not as easy as a return to the store, but not a big deal. FYI, whenever I buy a TV, DVD, flat panel monitor, etc, I tape the receipt to the back or the bottom. No one will see it, but I will never lose it. Now that I use...

    FSDO inspector verbal interpretation

Yeah, but that chopper pilot had a commercial rating, so....... The lesson from that is NEVER film anything. Do not create evidence for someone to use against you.

Thanks, Doc. I've always wondered how that worked.

    Question for DR. Bruce

Quick question in SI's... When you go for your medical and it's deferred to OKC, is your old medical no longer valid due to the deferral? In other words, are you grounded from the date you apply and are deferred until the new one comes back?

    Plane Re-registration

Make sure you set a reminder or do something to make sure it gets done online when the window opens. Online, it's a piece of cake (like a few minutes and a credit card). If you miss the window, it's painful. DO NOT miss the window.

There actually is no violation tossing dead hookers from the plane (assuming no hazard to anyone on the ground). Tossing live ones, however.......

This. It's more important to me that the guys at my house remember me, than that the guys 300 miles away remember me.

    Body Mass Index

This isn't about me. I am down 12 pounds, aiming for 30 before I get my knee replacement. And it's not about you. It's about the system, the process, and the insanity of the bureaucracy.

    Body Mass Index

No offense Doc, YOU have not said that, and I respect your opinion and help here. But Greg stated "You can't be obese and pass imsafe", and in the other thread stated flatly that BMI>=40 should be disqualified from flying aircraft. I am taking issue with Greg's statements, not yours...
