F-35 test pilot results. Doesn't look promising

Meh, six pax and all that... Geesh, are you a closet MELB guy or something?! I do have to admit: my "initial" helicopter ride was in an H369HS, so I AM biased to the type... ...But the Chinook has carried my soul for close to 4K hours of "semi" safe flight.

You have the MH stallion's and forgot the MH Chinooks?! C'mon! I for one, am offended! (But that's a pretty good list!)

Need advice from military rotary wing veteran pilot or aircrew

That sounds very similar to what we brief as well.

Nothing fun about being knee to knee on a -130 for any amount of time.

Yeah, yeah "double headed death bus" and all that, but my favorite description of the Chinook is "2 Huey's fighting over who's going to kill the crew!"

Need advice from military rotary wing veteran pilot or aircrew

50 years can't be wrong. We are flying the DC-3 of helicopters! Honestly though it's a good aircraft, tough as hell, and can take a lot of battle damage. You do have to spend some time to get them tracked smooth. First time I saw one in a book I thought it was the ugliest helo I'd ever seen...

Need advice from military rotary wing veteran pilot or aircrew

I think sometimes they make it deliberately vague to give you some leeway to work it out, instead of tying your hands to a procedure that may endanger all parties. A good brief goes a long way. If I had a towed jumper, I would talk it out with my JM (always had one on ICS with us) and go from...

Need advice from military rotary wing veteran pilot or aircrew

I'm a -47 FE, and our procedure is that it's up to the JM as to either cut them loose or treat the towed jumper as an unwilling STABO participant and slow down and lower them to the ground. Nothing we can do about grounding until I get the aft gear on the ground, and I'd bet nobody on the DZ has...

Do you wear a flight suit ?

I wear the nomex zoom bag or ABDU at work. I don't have an ejection seat, so if we go down, I have what's on me. 3.7k hours; so far, so good. Civilian flying? Hat, t-shirt, shorts and shoes. I don't fly in flip flops. I'm paranoid they'll get caught up in the pedals, and I don't want to egress...

Civil Aircraft Landing Permit - military airfields

Yeah, that was back when it was really fun. You won't see that any more. Once we got bigger, we inherited all the problems that come with it.

Civil Aircraft Landing Permit - military airfields

It was a lot of mind games, but for a purpose. Would definitely have been easier out of AIT for sure. But, I will say it did prepare me for what was to come. In the 12 years I spent in that unit, I was never bored! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Zodiac, did you go through Green Platoon when you were there? Had a few guard guys go through with me. Good group all around and helped us out a bunch on the maintenance!

    Tell me about gyrocopters!

I was lucky enough to grab a ride in an Air Command Tandem 1000 back in the day. Let me say also, I have a fear of heights, and looking past my thigh at the ground 1500 feet below was an eye opener, but not terrifying. Being strapped to that thing was a blast! It was a very exhilarating flight...

    What's this?

Gawd, that makes my PTSD flare up just thinking about that place. 3 mile final approach at 50 kts.... <shudder> "what lane did he clear us for?"
