    DA40XL Pre Buy

I think the DA-40's have a wood composite prop, so delamination could have been an issue. Definitely worth investigating further to see what happened...

Need help on centerline alignment short final to touchdown landings

See if a school near you has a redbird xc crosswind simulator. An hour on one should really help your issue, as it did mine. It teaches you where to look and what the alignment should look like. I also agree with others that you want to look down the runway, not right off the nose.

    Iphone over Bluetooth Headset

Well then the Zulu 1 I purchased used must have been labeled a 1 by mistake, because it certainly does Bluetooth music off my iPhone. Great for cross country flights. :) With the area tower phone numbers programmed in my phone it also serves as a great backup should my radios (panel and...

    Tower Closings?

KFTG closing - not a big deal KBJC closing - bad idea, lots of jet traffic and helos in some of the most congested airspace in Colorado. I tend to agree with one of the earlier posters, one accident/mid air at some of the busiest on this list will cause panic and probably a call for user...

All examinees of DPE Edward L. Lane to be required to re-test

So who's paying for all of these 709 rides? I'd be ****ed if I got such a letter…

    Plane You Do NOT Like

C-172N's with a 160HP engine The C-182RG I rent now is great aside from the late 70's paint, interior and avionics. ;)

ADS-B editorial from OSH and Bad Elf unit review

I have the Bad Elf Pro and it works perfectly with Foreflight. Having the LCD is also a huge plus! :) I don't like Foreflight's proprietary stance on ADS-B and only allowing Stratus receivers. I think this will potentially bite them in the ass down the road. I was impressed with the Clarity...

GNS 5870 MFI Bluetooth GPS for iPad

I have a GNS 5870 MFI Bluetooth GPS for sale that is in good shape. I have used this with Foreflight Mobile and it should be compatible with all other location based apps. The battery lasts for around 10 hours on a charge. This comes with the following acessories: Cigarette Lighter charger...

    NA - Denver Multiple Shooting

Such a sad tragedy- I have been at that theatre many times. :( Thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims and I hope this nutjob gets what he deserves...

What's happening at St. George, Utah?

True- so he was probably on something. It's hard to believe an ATP couldn't figure out how to taxi if they were sober, although its not every day you try to back out without a tug.

What's happening at St. George, Utah?

My question: why didn't he take off? Obviously this guy had enough experience to do it if he wanted to. My wild ass guess theory is that he was ****ed off at Skywest (in addition to being on the run for murder) and wanted to destroy their property. He decided to do it on the ground with...

    MOVIE: Flight

Saw the trailer for "Flight" in the theatre today when we went to see "Savages". Flight looks like a really good flick and from what I heard it is getting Oscar buzz already, probably due to the actors and director. One question though: in the trailer it looks like an MD-80/90 AND it has...

    About Pilots n Paws

I have put my name in for about four flights so far and not one of them has happened for one reason or another. It does help when a volunteer coordinator plans out the legs and then tries to coordinate the pilots, but even with that it seems like a crap shoot..

Slipping in turns for precision power off 180

On my PPL check ride (in a 172N) after I demonstrated short, soft, a forward slip and a go around the DPE said "my plane" and proceeded to demonstrate a power off 180. There was slipping involved in all the turns and I have to say it was pretty cool. :)

How is Vince Neil going to pass his medical?

He just needs to wait until the 3rd class exemption goes into effect... :stirpot: This might be a possible reason why that may not be such a great idea.

    Is this pilot a jerk?

Wow! Comical and crazy at the same time. "Do you know who you are talking to sir!?!" LOL  My other favorite stupid New York pilot trick was the clown who asked approach to land on the beach, was told no, and then faked an emergency and went ahead with it anyway. I hope the FSDO shows...

    172M 180HP conversion

I've flown/rented 172N's with 160 and 180HP. Functionally I do not fly them differently- I fly the same v-speeds and approach speeds. The nice thing is with 180HP you have a higher gross weight to play with and better climb performance at Vx and Vy. I did see the STC paperwork for the 180HP...

Don't lock the courtesy car - PLEASE!

The Japanese even have a neat word for this error proofing concept called Poka-Yoke. People make mistakes, to err is human. Calling them idiots, especially when they are customers or employees is another mistake, although a potentially pricey one.

    Aluminum Overcast Hail Damage

We had some wicked hail storms last night in the Denver area and unfortunately the B-17 Aluminum Overcast was hit, sustaining damage to the flight control surfaces. I have heard spare parts are enroute from Oshkosh to fix her up, but she will be on the ground through the weekend. :( It doesn't...
