What is your shortest Cross country?

Did KEIK to 7CO0 once, that's 4NM. Several KAPA to KFNL flights, 53NM with good practice on talking to Denver approach on every flight. Sent from my iPhone with Tapatalk

    Top Gun 2

You're right. While top gun got me interested, that Doug vs Knotcher race sealed the deal. It's on YouTube replete with the whole obscure but very catchy "Old Enough To Rock and Roll" song. Still fun to watch... ;) http://youtu.be/JeMzhlRXDe4 Sent from my iPhone with Tapatalk

    Top Gun 2

I love the original as well, it was part of what made me want to be a pilot as a kid. I even went as Maverick for Halloween in 2nd grade the year it came out. It also made me think at that age that pilots got all the hot women, but now we know that's not always true with what happened to...

    Car Brand Stereotypes

Just got a new 3.6L Outback. I looked at other brands and models including Ford, Jeep, Toyota, Lexus, etc. The new Outback really can't be beat in terms of interior, build, or technology for the money IMHO. As a pilot/aviation enthusiast I also have to say I love the boxer engines Subaru...

So how did this guy pass his check ride?

The most dangerous part I saw was the power off stall- this stuff needs to be automatic. He just sits there like a dumbass, and the DPE has to tell him what to do! :mad2: Let's hope the FSDO takes a look at this at some point and makes the guy take his ride again.

Crash at gold course near KSMO Santa Monica

I nominate this for post of the year. On a serious note, I am really glad he's ok. I just hope this does not give more ammo to the crew that wants to shut SMO down.

    iPad wifi vs cellular

The Air 2 doesn't need a separate T mobile sim for the 200mb free data, simply activate it for T-Mobile when you get it.

    which Ipad to get?

Just picked up a cellular iPad Air 2 from Apple to replace my iPad 2. I am really happy with it so far, and since it is slightly smaller than my old one it will work better for me in the cockpit. I couldn't see myself being happy with the mini as I use the iPad a ton when I travel for work to...

    Health Insurance cluster

This practice is called cost shifting. The hospital needs to make a certain amount of revenue to cover costs and make a profit (or margin for a non-pro). With many payors in the mix (medicare/caid, private insurance, self pay, indigent/charity) you have to shift the cost to those that can pay...

Airplane rental in San Diego area

Making two business trips soon to San Diego and will have some free time on both. I'd love to rent a 172, 182 or SR-20 and hire an instructor while I am there to do some sea level flying. I did the same thing in San Francisco earlier this summer and it was quite the blast for this pilot from...

    Amelia Rose

I applaud her for using the name her parents gave her and her self promotional skills to have the opportunity to do this flight. On the other hand, I would be more impressed if it wasn't done in a PC-12 with a more experienced pilot. If it inspires more young people to get into aviation...

USA Today story on General Aviation Crashes

This guy obviously has it out for GA. With that being said I had a seat in a 172N fly backwards on me during a touch and go once- bad design by Cessna IMHO. To be fair the FBO did not follow the AD that was issued for it, so it was also their fault as well.

    172 Failing the "Idle Test"

Known issue with 172R and 172SP. I have found leaning at 1200RPM to a 100RPM rise before taxi seems to help.

    I'm a Lear Jet Captain!!

Such asshattery is not limited to jet drivers. One of my recent experiences: After calling final runway 15 at FNL (after calling mid field downwind, Base, etc): "Cirrus 23A is taking the runway now departure to the east, aircraft on final go around" I did go around but I let him have it on...

    Remembering Challenger 28 years ago

I was in the first grade. Because of McAuliffe being the first teacher is space we were watching the launch live. Pretty traumatic video even for our first grade minds..
