Aircraft Shoulder Harnesses: Are You Wearing Them Incorrectly?

To be honest, until watching that video, I don't believe I have ever seen anyone wearing a belt across the middle of their stomach like that before. Wasn't even aware it was a thing.

Would cranking for 10 seconds with the mixture in idle cut off pre oil the engine?

An engine only needs to be pre-oiled if it doesn't already have oil in it. Like freshly overhauled, first start but even then it's got assembly lube, you just want to ensure the pump has picked up the oil and is delivering it. As far as doing on every start you're just going to by buying a new...

    Grove amphib wheels

UPDATE: For anyone interested I finally got this done and it wasn't a pleasant experience. The instructions were fine except the bolt on step 6 was put in the wrong way so it was not possible to remove it and so I had to take the whole thing apart and I mean the WHOLE thing. Same on the other...

    engine out, reducing drag

Well it would eliminate the resistance of a closed throttle on the intake stroke which is what gives you engine breaking in a normal car when you're going down hill but at the same time it's introducing more air into the cylinder that would need to be compressed on the next cycle so I'm thinking...

    engine out, reducing drag

Engine out, windmilling fixed pitch prop, which is better - closed throttle or wide open throttle?

    Mechanic’s insurance

Over the past decade I’ve kept my IA current by doing a handful of annual inspections that were pretty much all owner assist for people I know well. There is still an element of risk of course but I felt it was acceptable. The requirement for renewal is four annuals per year and my own airplane...

    Mechanic’s insurance

Yes, thinking back I seem to remember it was a California thing. I thought about getting it in Nevada but would have had to go through a service that gives you some sort of phony residence status so I just ditched the idea. My liability shield now is - retirement.

    Mechanic’s insurance

I looked at this years ago and maybe I'm wrong but I had come to the conclusion that I could not operate as an LLC if my business involved a government issued license.

What's wrong with a dutch roll in a passenger jet?

Because the yaw damp system is malfunctioning or not working and there is no deferral in the MEL.

    Advice for loooooong cross-country

Southern route is going to have monsoons that time of year so you'll have to plan around that. Don't fret the mountains so much with that Cherokee just follow one of the interstate routes, you could do I-80 across the Sierra at Truckee and cross the divide in Wyoming. Then just dodge the...

I Believe We Are Doing This Wrong

Well you seem to be comparing a general aviation airplane to a modern automobile. Is there actually a place that overhauls the engines of modern cars? Wouldn't you just get a replacement on a warranty claim or more likely just dump the car and buy a new one? Oh and BTW, a $75k dollar vehicle...

Trent Palmer (YouTuber Bush Pilot Channel) Suspended By FAA

So where's the line? Kids doing donuts at an intersection at two in the morning, are you going to complain? Does that make you a whiny, NIMBY, Karen?

    Troubleshooting, "lost vacuum"

It's designed to shear and decouple a seized pump from the drive gear in the engine. That's what it's purpose is.

    Grove amphib wheels

They are Clamar M2500 floats and their documentation doesn't really have any information either but I'm going to give them a call. I was just wondering if there was something simple I was missing. UPDATE: I got a document from the float manufacturer on how to do this, it requires removing the...

    Grove amphib wheels

Does anyone have experience with these and how to get the axle out of the fork? The Grove site and manual just references the normal open end axle procedure and that's not going to work. Outboard fork has axle with grease filling, inboard fork has castle nut with cotter key and a through bolt...

Handheld transceiver recommendations? Icom, Yaesu, or Sporty's?

I bought a Yaesu (back then it was Vertex Standard) because of the size. The Sporty's looked to be just a bit smaller than a WW2 walkie-talkie.

    My tailwheel training impressions..

That's the Citabria spring gear, it's really mushy and difficult to tell when it makes contact so it's not really your fault. The sight picture isn't going to work because not all runways are the same width. Just keep at it and eventually you'll get it and wonder what all the fuss was about.
