    CFI's - Logging in ForeFlight

If you are with the student, enter the flight, add comments, then sign right on his/her iPad. Once signed no mods to the entry unless the signature is removed. You can share the logbook entry to your Foreflight log if you want.

    High performance endorsement

A general guideline, but not limited to… Most of the things on the Private check ride (steep turns, slow flight, all the different stalls, short & soft takeoffs/landings, emergency procedures). I like to fly the plane light and near gross, if possible, because there is usually a noticeable...

Approach Types in Garmin GNC 355

I guess I can’t say all, since I haven’t tried all, but haven’t found an approach yet without an advisory GS. Since those navigators don’t have VOR or ILS receivers, the best they can do is replicate the approach with GPS. I don’t know what, or if, there is an official term for that, so I...

Approach Types in Garmin GNC 355

The 355 is GPS/COM only, just like the 300XL. The good news is that all non LPV approaches have an advisory glide slope The 375 adds an ADSB Transponder. The 175 is just the GPS navigator, no COM or Transponder. The navigator is the same in all of them. Any non-gps approaches in the database...

    RV Vans Owners

I built about 90% of my RV-7A single handed. Only needed help when my arms were too short to get to both sides of the rivet. A lot of rivets can be set with a squeezer.

    Owning and Flying Over TBO

The training planes I fly (172s and a SkyCatcher) have breezed by TBO with no fanfare. We had a couple of 172 with over 4000 Tach hours on their original engines. The SkyCatcher I fly currently has over 3000 tach hours. The engine has good compressions and good oil analysis reports. These...

    Garmin gnc300xl dbase

I haven’t updated mine in a year, but believe you can still get upgrades through Jeppesen. The cards are limited in storage size, so depending on the coverage you want, it may require having 2 cards to do the job.

    Simulated vs actual IFR flight

I tell my instrument students that the first time they enter actual IMC is a ‘semi-religious’ experience No one has disagreed with me yet! I do my best to get as much actual IMC as possible during training. There is no substitute! I strongly suggest you fly in IMC with an instructor or well...

    IFR Aircraft

IFR radios, especially an IFR GPS -$$$$ (vs a VFR GPS -$$) are usually the big difference. Any EFIS has all the required flight instruments, and backup instruments are highly recommended (but not required by regulation) for IFR. Most IFR planes have 2 comm radios, a ‘VFR only’ plane may only...

    Special Issuance to Basic Med

You are the only one who ‘reports to the FAA’ I used to have to do yearly testing (heart related) - my 3rd class was only good for 1year. My cardiologist said it was not needed, but the FAA said it was… I did my basic med exam with my doctor, and the online AOPA test before my 3rd class...

    Does Flight Aware Use ADS-B?

Do you have the UAvionix app for your device? That should tell you if it is working or not…

A few questions on time logging as a CFI

Not sure what the airlines consider 'pristine' When the student is doing the flying (and is a rated pilot) he/she can log it as PIC, and you can log it as PIC because, as an instructor, you were ACTING as PIC. Day/Night/XC as appropriate. If your fellow CFI is willing to endorse your...

    Public ADSB information "PRIVATE"

Flight Aware has a process to request not publishing flight data (lots of charter companies do this). Not sure if that translates to all ADSB traffic data...

Any experience with Dr. Gregory Pinnell out of Michigan?

I used him before I went Basic Med. He was fair and honest with me. Nice guy, was a space program doctor. Flies a Cherokee 6. He is definitely the guy to go to if you have need of a Special Issuance. Pretty high up in the FAA Med ranks - my SI medicals were issued by him, not OKC!

    Special Issuance of a Medical

I suggest you talk to Dr. Bruce Chein, who specializes in these types of issues...http://www.aeromedicaldoc.com Tell him the whole story, then follow what he says to the letter.

    Special Issuance of a Medical

Is it heart related? If so, don’t hold your breath (been there, done that). My doc even wrote them a letter. The other option is Basic Med.

    Practice Instrument Approach Non-Towered

I suggest talking to the appropriate approach facility - for safety and practice - but it is not required. They will tell you “frequency change approved” at the appropriate point on the approach so you can announce on the CTAF. If doing multiple approaches, you can contact them again after...
