Agua Dulce was bought by the Spears family, the one that ran a NASCAR team for years. They did alot of improvements so its still a nice airport. They used to have a monthly BBQ flyin in the summers but that stopped about a year or two ago.

Being an Amatuer built aircraft, the builder could have done whatever they wanted reguarding the pre heat . Alot of the Vans I've seen they just pull heat off a very small part of one of the exhaust tubes. Perhaps it was just not enough heat? Or the carb box/ inlet iced over before the carb.

Looks like an 815 union with one end cut off. Might be a speciality part made by Grumman. Any machine shop could modify a 815 for you in less than 10 minutes if they knew the diameter of that screen that slip fits inside.

I am also red/green color deficent, but Yes, you can be a pilot, but your medical will show a limitation that prevents you from flying at night. Color blindness is not a yes or no thing, its a scale from mild to severe. Depending on how bad yours is you may be able to remove that restriction...
