AT&T unlimited cell data is back

Mari, I have been using AT&T for many years and found that it provides service on most of the islands of the Caribbean (through the local cell service) and all through Mexico and Latin America. Just got back from Cuba and had no service. Some of the folks had to have cell service and spent a...

    Colorado POA this Sunday

I was down at LHX last week for lunch. The restaurant at the golf course is going to close permanently on Dec. 23rd. A new tenant is being sought.

    Whats the cheapest FIKI bird?

Mooney's as far back as late 90s were FIKI.

Pireps for Ohio State Airport (KOSU)?

I use KOSU almost every Christmas for a few days. Costs are similar to Port Columbus but staff is usually excellent. Hangar space was about $35.00/night. I got tired of the conga line into KCMH. Should be a nonstop trip if you can do about 5 hours. Lots of gas stops along the way if you...

    KLN-94 Gotchas

I have been a KLN 94 for a decade and found it difficult to learn. I bought a docking station which helped immensely. If you would like to buy it I am all done using it. It is a little dusty but otherwise in great condition. I would part with it for $80.00+freight. Walt Bell 303 886 4575...

    Flying into Telluride. Tips?

Just got back from KTEX. Had a fly-in for the weekend. A variety of aircraft from an LSA to Bonanza showed up. If you do not have mountain/high density altitude experience, I think you should get some before you go. Ktex is easy by mountain standards but you need a good level of knowledge...

    Taxi-up hotels enroute to OSH?

The track I take is south of the line you will be flying. I would suggest having AirNav do a flight plan with stops. Pick one with cheap gas and click on it. You will get the airport information including motels.

    Non-RNAV?

I'll take a guess. RNAV SID's and STAR's are reserved for turbo jet aircraft (have minimum speeds and climb rates). If you ask for one in a flight plan you must be able to comply. You request these procedures using a ICAO flight plan. Piston pilots need not apply for RNAV. You can request...

    Cessna T210N - 1979

I owned T-210M for 15 years a while back. Great traveling airplane but required lots of maintenance. Most of the ones you find for sale have lots of deferred maintenance. A good prebuy can reveal all but usually only some of the problems. Careful study of the logbooks can be a good...

    M-20-A wood wing.

Read the ADs that apply to that model. You have got to have a metal tail or the required inspections will drive you crazy. The wing has a lot of continuing inspection requirements. Not many pilots crave an airplane like that. It is a nice airplane in some ways but not very useful.

Who needs a turbine Duke when you can have one of these?

Used to see them running around Viet Nam. The CIA was using them.

Aircraft rental or flight school in Saint Martin?

I do not for sure but you could try Grand Case airport on the French side, they might have an airplane you could use.

    Aspen

Aircraft performance is certainly an important aspect of planning a flight to KASE. But more importantly you should call the FBO at ASE and get an estimate of the fees for your intended flight. It may discourage you more than all that has been said here.

Would you get marker beacons on a new audio panel?

rbridges, I just updated my audio panel and I got an optional marker beacon. Consider it cheap insurance. A few airports in the US require one for the ILS and some foreign airports still require them. I happen to have a PS 7000 audio panel (built in 1999) that has a marker beacon, auto...

    PS Engineering 7000 Audio Panel

Recently removed for update. Panel was installed factory new in 1999 and used about 1600hrs. Features include two music inputs, soft mute of entertainment when radio in use/Karoake mode, Marker beacon receiver, cellphone input, internal recorder, 6 place intercom, Intellivox (auto squelch)...

    TKS Fluid

I have owned two booted airplanes and one with FIKI TKS. Both systems usually work but I have experienced failures with both. TKS is a little messy but a small piece of carpet on the floor at the low point of the wing plates will take care of the problem. You should not keep your plane in a...

    PS Engineering 7000 Audio Panel

Just removed a PS 7000 from my Mooney. It was factory installed in 1999 and I have used it for about 1500 hrs. It has a marker beacon (needs external lights), 6 place intercom, 2 stereo music inputs, ability to swap coms using an external button. The panel was removed for an updated audio...

    Garmin g1000 reliability

Mark, None of the Mooney G1000 have a path to 2020 compliance. Garmin of course has stuff to make it so, but Mooney has to approve before anything can be done. Mooney has a lot on its plate right now so you might not see their answer for a while. Mooney's solution maybe very pricey.

    AKG AV100

I bought a pair at the airplane expo in Palm Springs this year. They seem to be comfortable even after wearing them for some 9 hour flights. I was using a Bose X since 2003 and was happy with them but was not comfortable using Bose A20s.

Are stormscopes/strike finders still valid instruments?

I have been using a Strikefinder or later model Stormscope since 1990. I find them to be exceedingly useful. Has kept me out of a lot of bumps but more importantly they allow me to keep moving on days when others call it a day.
