    First Real Trip Since BFR

i noticed the Cessna sign as we were getting fuel, but i hadn't connected that this was their home. yes, while i flew C150s in my early days, the 172 (particularly the P and N models) is what i'm flying now. Great plane.

    First Real Trip Since BFR

Take a deep breath. My wife enjoys flying, but she still asked me, on the way to the airport, whether i'd flown this specific plane before. She didn't want to say she was a little nervous, but nothing cements a good flight like good communications and a smooth landing.

    First Real Trip Since BFR

Having taken 42 years off from flying to have a career, i returned last summer and got my BFR last August. I've taken my wife for a few flights, but yesterday, we took our first overnight trip together. It was a blast. I chose to fly from Tracy (TCY) to Santa Maria (SMX) to see a play by...

    Logging time

If your plane doesn't have a hobbs meter, perhaps you should start a timer on your iPad when you start up and then record the time when you shut down. That, or just record Tach time, which could be less than the actual time flown. Send some of those extra hours over to Modesto.

    Are We Missing One Sense?

Who knows, but having returned to flying last summer after 42 years off, i have many more years of flying w/o a headset than with one, so when this came to mind today, i thought i'd check in with the community.

    Are We Missing One Sense?

With ANR headsets, i'm wondering if the additional quiet actually impairs our abilities while flying and/or landing. As one who only drives stick-shift cars, i don't need to look at the tach to know it's time to shift to a higher or lower gear. I can hear and feel what's going on with my...

The real entry-level jobs are disappearing

+1 and we can blame corporations (the 1%) for screwing the middle class. They may claim their taxes are too high, but in reality taxes are far lower than they were 50 years ago. Still, many companies, like Apple, have moved their headquarters (well, a shell headquarters) overseas to Ireland to...

President Obama's free 2 Year Community College law.

I completely agree. When GOP and Dem administrations began stressing "college ready", they also devalued vocational education, which can be much more valuable and actually prepares students for jobs in the real world. this is another example of how politicians (and the media) determine...

President Obama's free 2 Year Community College law.

As a former educator, i'd like to chime in. However, this is going to end up in the spin zone. For at least the past decade, administrations (GOP and Dem) have stressed that K-12 education should prepare students to be college ready. All the standards, and NCLB have stressed this. However, as...

How much is aircraft rental at your FBO?

KTCY has a variety of C172 M, N, and P planes, all which rent for $75/dry. It comes out to about $120/hour wet.

How far do you drive to fly?

KTCY is 40 minutes from my house, but KMOD is only 20 minutes away. Unfortunately, their only flight school went belly up last year.

    The Interview

Agree. If Rotten Tomatoes ends up giving it an 75+, i'll add it to my Netflix queue. Otherwise, just another stupid movie.

    Have you had Aerobatic Training

In my first flying life, 1972, i spent the summer doing aerobatics and loved it. Afterwards, i stopped flying to focus on college and career, not returning until last summer.
