Don’t laugh, there is a push to eliminate the big expense in the front end of airplanes.

    Categories of ILS

New to me. I knew they fly cat III b in Europe. What’s the c? Never mind, I’ll google it. Saw a video of a airbus landing somewhere in England , the pilot had his arms crossed the entire time.

Good thing I don’t fly for a living

You get a first class every six months on your own? I’m speaking of 121 drivers.

    Operating temp question

Engines all have their own level, some like 9, some 8. Anything above that will be spit out of the breather.

Looks like a old car bulb.

I think exposure to aerobatics should be required for a PPC

I believe it was required until 1949, then dropped for ppl. I learned in a tomahawk, after three spins you die, tail gets blanked out.

Carb heat broken, ok to fly?

Regardless if it’s legal or not to fly without carb heat you’d be a idiot to do so. Darwin is very active in aviation. If it was a aircraft with a MEL (you can generate a MEL for any aircraft, must be approved by feds) it would either be a no go item or have flight restrictions for weather...

    Thinking about a Twin Bonanza

Any engine change STC? A runout with different engines would be interesting.

    60 years ago today

135 fuselage is narrower than a 707. When Douglas came out with the 8 it was six across, Boeing wanted same, 135 fuselage would have been 5. 707, 727 and 737 had same fuselage basically. Not counting anything past 737-200.

Two United Planes Ignore Pauli Exclusion Principle

Thin Think about it again. They often push back and pull them out of the hole. Very tight at some of O’Hare gates.

Guy hit and killed by prop

A guy here has a few champs, and other like types without starters. It’s amazing how he hand props and starts them on the first attempt. Being a long time jet line mechanic props give me the creeps, watching them spin is almost hypnotizing.

Guy hit and killed by prop

The one I just installed had a warning not to turn in wrong direction. What pushes the vanes? They contact something. Jeez don’t you have anything better to do or are you striving for 30,000 posts?

    Thinking about a Twin Bonanza

Geared engine. Check how much a overhaul will cost compared to Aztec engines unless they’re low time and you plan to sell before they need it. I don’t know but it seems they’ll be expensive compared to direct drive.

    A CFI yelled at me

I just spent a week showing a guy how to hot start his 172. It always was hard to start because he used a crap procedure that some idiot CFI taught him 20 years ago. He almost crapped his pants when it started in two blades.

Is announcing our tail number necessary?

Am azing a citation wouldn’t call himself a citation. Better to give traffic some idea how fast you are.

    Camshaft question

Mike bush makes a living off of scaring people that do not have a intimate knowledge of airplanes. Nothing wrong with not knowing about aircraft, nobody can know everything about everything. To me, someone with more than 40 years in the aircraft maintenance industry, bush strikes me as one of...

Random post about IT nerds: Who has the worst IT dept?

Gulf stream has a it guy that has put so many bandaids in the tech writing system that if he gets hit by a bus they’re screwed. He’s the only one that knows what he did. Job security I guess.

How much total time is too much?

I’ve worked a B727-100 that had 100,000 cycles and well over 100,000 hours. Gulf streams are pretty much done at 25,000 cycles (so much for their quality). I would prefer a newer airframe with high time over a older one. Corrosion would be a concern for a really old airframe. Some airplanes do...
