Good luck, Ralph. I really enjoyed the precision of IFR training. After you learn flying by instruments, try to get some actual IMC with your instructor. It is invaluable.

I fly out of a contract tower airport, and we have a great controller who, along with her husband, were both controllers in Iraq and other places in the military. When they got out, they were too old for the FAA. It seems like a waste.

I felt the exact same way. Leaving the nest was one thing. Navigating my way across the horizon and back, all alone, and seeing your home airport appear where it's supposed to be after many hours of flying was the most amazing part of my PPL training.
