It also sounds like the straight-in aircraft were making traffic calls, were at a lower altitude, and he cut in front of them anyway. One was a Lear for God's sake. Not a good way to make your point, IMO.

At our airport, straight-ins usually work around traffic in the standard "pattern". I have seen straight-ins break off and re-enter when there are several airplanes in the pattern. I give those pilots high marks for courtesy. Imagine how most of us would feel if our "legal" straight in...

There are alternatives to fossil-fueled vehicles, but the current technology is mature and can be built at a HUGE profit so I wouldn't look for a change in vehicle technology anytime soon. Most of our eggs will be in the petro basket even if the price goes ridiculously high. And when it goes...

I had my kids wear shooters' earmuffs when they were very small (2 - 4 yrs old or so). They sat in the back of the Archer we rented and enjoyed it a lot. Both are pilots now. That's my experience:D

Thanks. His first solo was shortly after his 16th birthday, in December (WX prevented him from soloing on his birthday). This was his third or fourth time up solo since that. He's got almost 40 hours total, but has to wait another 10 months to take the checkride so he's going to be doing a lot...

It's very cold. I was watching my 16-year-old son solo my 172 and it looked like a 180 climbing out in the chill air. And about 80% of the hangars haven't been open in months, so the traffic is light. You can have the warm weather.
