I got a DJI Phantom 3 Drone. What is my outlook on these things now?

Seems pretty good to me. On par with my gopro hero 4. The included camera/gimbal setup is very stable. I have the standard model and really would have no use for video or pictures in any higher resolution than it will do. I guess time will tell as I only have a few flights on it so far. Took it...

I got a DJI Phantom 3 Drone. What is my outlook on these things now?

I just got one of these things. A DJI Phantom 3. I couldn't stand the thought of them being in the sky with me as a pilot, so I figured I better give it a shot and see if my opinion changes. I registered it with the FAA, which I have to say was a little intimidating even for me as a pilot. It...

First REAL Near Miss - SR22 / Helicopter

The chute could have saved you. Just about the same thing happened in Frederick MD - KFDK in 2014. The chute saved the Cirrus pilot and passenger. No luck for the helicopter pilot and passengers.

    Something even worse than drones!

Yeah, but turtles rarely break the 1' AGL mark. This is like hitting a pothole. Still don't want drones flying anywhere near where I am.

    you're number 2...

Not all towers have radar, however I would have expected a Class C to have it but it is possible they were not using radar for separation and lost track of where you were. It happens. I have had similar experiences. edit. I want to add one big thing. Think about the accident in Frederick MD...

    Deal or no deal?

I would only be concerned since it is a flight school airplane. I would think there may be the ever slightest risk of some sort of audit or whatever. If it was privately owned, who the hell would ever really care. Heck, if a friend offered to buy me dinner, drinks and tickets to the movies if I...

    Will tomorrow change the world?

I'll second that. I find this stuff fascinating.

    Drones are harmless ...

Maybe because the helicopter abandoned its car chase and followed it back to where it landed? Did you read it?

So, I guess I have to get a Cirrus...

Heck, I have a Cirrus and my wife is still afraid. I think they are working on an STC for a BRS chute on the 206. They have one for the 182, so that could also be an option for you.

Crew cars only for "professional" pilots?

I have yet to find an FBO that would flat out deny a crew car, but I have been requested to buy some fuel or only use it for 1/2 hour due to others that will need it. I can understand why they want to keep the jet guys happy, but to make a rule based on how it is registered makes no sense at all.

    G1000 VFR training recommendations

I used the Jeppesen G1000 course on the Ipad before I bought my previous G1000 equipped Cenna. I still look back on it from time to time to help remember certain things now flying a perspective Cirrus (basically the same thing as the G1000). The course is a little pricey, but I would recommend it.

    Predicting weather

I would fly yourself [myself] based on what I am seeing. Looks like good weather to me. edit. I don't want to come across like I am trying to persuade you to fly the trip. Make sure its your decision. :wink2:

Why aren't more Cirrus(Cirri?) used as aerobatic airplanes?

I agree! My guess is that the airplane is more than capable of some maneuvers. However Cirrus is really pushing safety, so I doubt they would want people to see what it could do then go out and try themselves. I would like to see it for added peace of mind in the air-frame construction though.
