    A Tower of Coins

Accepting coins is a PIA for the tellers. I was a teller at a Mellon Bank branch for a summer. We had to lug the coins back to the coin counter and run 'em thru. Ugh. And accepting home-rolled coins? FU, unless you put your account number on each roll. I had some dude try to silip a roll of...

Fifi flight plus an added bonus

So I got to ride in Fifi today (gunners seat ticket). Wow, what a ride! Guess who the co-pilot was.... If you guessed Jeff Skiles, you would be correct. Nobody else knew who he was until after we landed, I think one of the ground crew tipped some folks off. Super nice guy. It was a real...

Pilot Party At the Schmidt House! (BBQ)

Salt Lick BBQ ---- yuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Sadly, I'll be winging my way in the opposite direction that day, to Spain. I'm chaperoning a school trip for my daughter Stef (you remember her -- the future aviatrix at the Wings FlyBQ). Enjoy!!! Andrew

    Commuter Airplane

Winds could be an issue. I've only flown through California 2x, so what do I know? Not much. And you need to make sure your homebuilt Tailwind or RV or the like is IFR-certified or certifiable. That'll add to the cost of what are usually affordable craft.

    Commuter Airplane

Where you are will make a significant difference, thanks to weather. Also, terrain - you flying over cornfields or mountains? You will almost certainly require something that is IFR legal in any case, if you want to guarantee your 5 day/week sked. Even then.... If you are commuting in...

If your wife disapproves your plane purchase...

Although, life in SuperMax is in many ways a fate worse than death. Problem is, it costs me and my fellow taxpayers a lot of coin that I would rather have spent repaving roads.

Prop Strike - deal breaker on purchase?

Well, when and by whom was it overhauled? If it was just done, by some local dude, just to sell the plane I might be concerned. If it happened a while ago and has been flying since, or was done by a reputable shop, less of an issue.

If your wife disapproves your plane purchase...

I agree. Some cases are both so open-and-shut, and so heinous, that IMHO the death penalty is the only acceptable penalty. That home invasion in CT for example, where they raped and murdered a young girl and her mother and left the father for dead? Nothing short of death (and IMHO an...

    Caller id?

Never. I have noticed lately that some have cottoned on to that, and now are allowing their phone number to display. You see some number and maybe think, 'heck that could be legit, I mean after all, it's not a blocked number…' pick it up and get that robospiel. If I don't recognize the...

    Malibu operating costs...

Contact Piper Financial Services. They'll answer your questions, even if a purchase is far in the future. Then again, I don't know your time horizon. In 10yrs it could all be different. Certainly the rates will be!

    PA32 down out of PDK

I don't know. Not sure about the loading process. I would say, however, that if a whole truck was loaded with the wrong fuel there would have been more planes with problems (UNLESS that truck had just been refueled, and as soon as the plane crashed they immediately stopped fueling planes)...

    1959 Piper Comanche 250 - good buy?

New Paint 1999 is seller's code for 16 Year Old Paint Job. JPI 700 indicates someone who is at least somewhat interested in the health of the engine. That Gx55 is worthless. Sure, it works. I don't think Garmin supports the database, so it would require you to keep track of what airports...

    PA32 down out of PDK

I find it hard to believe that an airport as busy as PDK would not have the Hoover duckbill on the Jet truck. Maybe somewhere in East Bumblescrew, but not there. Can I imagine a fueler dumb enough to try to jam one into an obviously-incompatible 100LL port? Yes. But not one working the line at...
