Commercial tour operator turning off ADS-B

First, is ADS-B required on passenger carrying aircraft for hire? I can't find any regulations that say so. However, I haven't looked all that hard. Having said that, I would think that if the aircraft is operated outside A, B or C airspace, below 10k MSL, and outside of a mode C veil, it...

    UBG-16 questions

Regarding an updated data logger for the UBG-16, probably not by OSH. But...probably not long after. No promises, though. ;)

    UBG-16 questions

There are a series of easy tests one can perform to verify the accuracy of their temperature probes. First, does the instrument report ambient temps, or very close to before the engine is started? Second, the probe can be removed and submerged in an ice bath (70% ice/ 30% water). The...

opportunity to work in Miami for AA

To be fair, basically the entire eastern half of Oregon is VERY conservative. The national news portrays the state through a very narrow lens due to Portland, Salem and Eugene. Unfortunately, Bend is beginning to lean that direction, as well.

Chipping Away at the 1500hr Rule

I had this discussion with my instructor a few years ago and the following question resulted in interesting conversation. Who's the better pilot, the instructor with roughly the same hour, 1500 times over, or a 500-hour pilot, each hour bringing its own unique set of challenges (location...

    Porsche rant

I currently have a 1980 911SC Weissach and a 2000 Mustang Cobra R. The "R" is faster in every measurable category, however, I drive the 911 much more often as I feel it is one of the most rewarding cars to "get right". I had a 1984 911 prior and it is my only automotive regret as far as cars I...

    GR-30P Issues

Hi Leo- Let's start by troubleshooting the fuel flow. There are two transducer installed, one wired directly to the EDC-33P and one into another EDC channel by way of a FFDM-1 (fuel flow differential module). I first suggest disconnecting the wiring from one flow transducer at a time and...

For Sale 1/5 share Cessna 150/150 @ KBDN

I am offering my 20% share in a very low hour and well maintained Cessna 150/150 (150HP Lycoming O-320, heavily modified via STC over the stock 100HP, O-200). TTAF is just over 3000 hours and the TSMO is just over 500 hours. The avionics have been upgraded recently with a Lynx NGT-9000 ADSB-B...

5G: your phone and cell plan in 2022 and beyond

It often seems like technology progresses for progress's sake only. "Ya, but the new widget has this, that and whatever." Is that new widget necessary or useful, or is it just new? It's like a company having meetings for meeting's sake, because someone determined that scheduled meetings were...

    Training today sucked

If you unfamiliar with the oscar pattern, it may be worthwhile for you to practice it with a safety pilot. It's really great for helping staying ahead of the plane. Descents, climbs, turns, etc, all at a specific rate/time. You can even add reviewing checklists and mock ATC calls as you...

Short in stature.. interested in PPL..

I had a coworker that had to do that years ago in his car. Unfortunately, nobody could remember his named as we all called him Pac Bell. Young men can be cruel. :)

    Commercial License - How Hard?

I remember my landings started to SUCK near the end of my instrument rating! You go missed on all the approaches and only actually land once per lesson. My commercial rating whipped that right back into shape once I remembered what it was like to actually look out the window. My favorite...

    Commercial License - How Hard?

It's basically like your private rating, to a higher standard. That and you now have to understand how/if you can be paid. I found it MUCH easier than the instrument rating. The power off 180s become really fun after a while. :)
