If you guys ever seen the HBO show Silicon Valley, It's a wonderful caricature of how inane that space can be

Wind turbine farms with blinking lights

Interesting - if it's airport related "so sad to bad" to the complainants. If it's a silent blinking red light on the horizon, well that has GOT. TO. GO! ## sounded like a slow news day to be honest.. but if we're going to entertain the efficacy of lighted vs unlighted: -these are all...

    airliner actual weight vs GTOW?

I can only imagine the suits and public outcry that would follow if pax were weighed at boarding!

    airliner actual weight vs GTOW?

That escalated! The TLDR is it's a statistically reasonable average, reading the AC was interesting, thanks to whoever posted it. The question of does the plane actually way 486,582 lbs or 486,978? There's merit to that question. But reasonable statistics are used throughout the world, not just...

Trent Palmer (YouTuber Bush Pilot Channel) Suspended By FAA

At face value, I would not do it* Considerations at the minimum though are: -is this an area where bush flying or low flying planes are common? -do I know the neighbor?

When have you declared an emergency?

Sure, and then I'll stop milking this dead cow. But those folks presumably were less than proficient, IE, not proficient enough to safely operate a twin. There was the 310 guy in Vegas who over flew a good airport and, from what we knew, didn't feather or secure the dead engine.. seemingly let...

Trent Palmer (YouTuber Bush Pilot Channel) Suspended By FAA

FAR 91.13 is a broad "cover all" that's open to subjective interpretation - which is always concerning to those who could be accused. If we leave that distinction up to a "jury of our 'peers'" that's a slippery slope of moral relativism. I will say, I appreciate good flying content on YouTube...

    Turboprop vs piston question

I mean, if you guys want to burn jet fuel and be more efficient there's always the diesel option.. The DA-62 *twin* (the big one, not the smaller 42 twin) will carry seven people at 180 knots while burning 9 gallons per hour combined! Turbines are cool as hell! But they simply don't scale...

When have you declared an emergency?

That's great, love reading real world stories like this. The kind of stuff I wish Flying did more of, but that's for another thread Landing at L35 (Big Bear) with the Aztec after a weekend camping trip in Furnace Creek the left main gear down light extinguished somewhere on roll out. I noticed...

When have you declared an emergency?

At least for GA, yes. But in the commercial world (which obviously has extremely proficient crews), there we have lots of data on inflight shutdowns. Just about all of which end up as non-events. But apples:chairs comparing a Seneca to an A320 But yes, proficiency is the wild card

When have you declared an emergency?

^that goes both ways, most people only hear about the accidents. Some VMC role accident that makes it in the news "see I told you so! twins aren't safe" without a real datapoint against all the successful, competently flown engine out landings

When have you declared an emergency?

I'm loving the successful single engine twin ops stories here!! Really helps kill that stupid phrase "bUt a TwiN OnLY FlIEs yOU tO tHe ScenE of the AcCident"

When have you declared an emergency?

I posted about it here, last summer a pin came out of the main gear on retraction and caused the Duchess left main gear to get wedged in the well. Gear would not come down with normal nor the emergency extension. I was the only pilot in the aircraft and had out of town non english speaking...

    Southwest back in the news

The staff & crew have always been fantastic on southwest, I flew them not long ago But outside of that you are only getting a seat in a machine that goes from A to B. The six flights I've taken in the last 3 years or so have all arrived late* . Asterisk that the one that actually arrived on...

    Is adding vor worth it?

I've had GPS go out more than once flying around Southern California, different planes too, everything from 430 to 750. The outage is momentary but enough to give you pause. I like having the VORs dialed in (or the ILS if on RNAV and there's an ILS available) as an extra safety blanket Flying...

    Dear Signature Flight Support...

Unfortunately to those outside of the aviation Community there's a very limited amount of public interest in old airplanes A museum is a great idea but all these things cost money, people generally aren't willing to pay more than 10, 15, maybe 20 bucks for an entry ticket There's a much larger...

    Dear Signature Flight Support...

Thanks! Honestly that sounds entirely reasonable to me Why should any entity that owns a thing have to offer it for free? If the city offered it for free then the city should pay the rent to signature, otherwise signature has every right to collect it from the tenant
