O-200- to filter, or not to filter?

Filters don't get everything, they do a better job than the screen alone. Your going to pay for a filter along with the oil in the filter, change the oil 25hr with screen or 50 with filter, go with the 25hr nothing is better than clean new oil.

PIPER Wing Spar AD - Final Ruling

    f) Compliance Comply with this AD within the compliance times specified, unless already done. If your aircraft does go over the 5,000 hr + factor and you do the inspection and it is good does this terminate the AD or do you have to do it again and at what time?

PIPER Wing Spar AD - Final Ruling

If you have a plane that is affected by this AD with over the 5,000 hr + factor just how much is it worth if you try to sell it now that people know the AD is out. If you list it for sale without knowing if the wing is good or bad and just want out how much of a hit would you take or if you feel...

PIPER Wing Spar AD - Final Ruling

Instrument Training - Is Simulator Needed?

A lot of pilots got their IR with time on a ATC510 or ATC610 the 510 seem to be more user friendly as it just used tapes and you could do the flight by yourself. As a CFII i used the 510 and 610 for years the 610 with plotter was a great device at the time. The new simulators are great and...

    Model T of Aviation

Is it possible that a low cost GA aircraft, not some light sport or some other light but big like a Cessna 172 or Piper PA-28 could be produced. It needs to be produced in large numbers to get the cost down to be affordable by most people. China has invested large amount of money in GA do they...

CFI's thoughts after one of thier studets has an accident?

You can always tell the new CFI's they stand out close to the runway for their first student solo fingers crossed and in a sweat. The old ones might watch the take off go in have a cup of coffee listen to the radio for a call turning final. Go out watch the landing go back in the warm hangar...

Be a CFI in my old age?

I got my CFI in 1973 things were a little easy back then and only the FAA could do it and they had a lot of leeway, now DPE have no leeway they have to administer the test by the book. I work at a Flying club as a CFI and CFII also the A&P/IA I also am 74 years old so I only take on a few...

    Cheap Annual

For those that get the 15 minute Annual and work on their plane themselves is that a bad thing. It's not like those planes are causing most of the accidents or killing most of the pilots. Most GA aircraft can take a lot of, or lack of preventative maintenance. Worn out bushings in landing gear...

    No Lead Aviation Fuel

It's been 25 years since EPA ban on lead in fuel, just how long do you think Kerry and the new administration are going to wait. 1970: Congress passes the Clean Air Act. The EPA is formed and given the authority to regulate compounds that endanger human health. 1973: EPA mandates a phased-in...

    No Lead Aviation Fuel

It's been a few years, what is going on with no lead aviation gas, thought it was down to one or two. With the new administration on fossil fuel they will probably do more than a nudge from the EPA, to force a transition to an unleaded fuel.

    How much is too much?

The C-150-D was flown by a high time CFI with lots of 150 time on landing power reduced had a shudder in the engine that he had never had before on a 150. The end play on the prop for pull and push about 1/8" and a rotation of the prop tip about 1" as already talked about not sure exact as I did...

    Missing Logs

A J-3 Piper Cub not much drop in value for lost logs, more of a loss of value is the data tag lost as it just screws into the plywood floor of a J-3. If it's a Twin Seabee big drop in value if the log books are lost.
