Southwest flight 150agl 4 mile final into TPA

4.8 nm out, but yeah. Especially after the OKC incident. I have to believe they would have been receiving all kinds of EGPWS alerts being that low that far from the runway, though. Along with just normal radar altimeter alerts like "500" "400" etc. - which should have seemed really out of place...

Runway Weight Bearing Capacity (2024 thread)

Now that I'm at my computer, I found the reference, it is indeed in the AFD legend. And here's how it looks in the AFD entry: Typically this is not a big deal for most GA aircraft. OKC, for example, can support 120,000 pound single-wheel aircraft. That's a lot, and I'd be interested if...

Runway Weight Bearing Capacity (2024 thread)

I don't actually see a question in your post, but the airport manager gave the correct answer. S-20 is for single wheel landing gear. The more wheels you have, the more it spreads out the weight, so the more the plane can weigh. I believe the Chart Supplement lists the different wheel...

Logging cross country +50NM between Depart Dest Airports FLYING Non Direct Route

Call it a character flaw :D, I wanted to make sure anybody reading this abysmal thread in the future doesn't think he's right, despite his assertions that he is 100% correct. Although if he's a troll, he's a pretty long-winded one.

You claim to want us to provide references, but when we do, you choose to ignore them. You clearly didn't read the FAA's own letter I posted a link to in Post 33. So I'll link it again: https://www.faa.gov/sites/faa.gov/files/faa_migrate/interps/2008/Sisk_2008_Legal_Interpretation.pdf You'll...

Drone at 1000 feet in the San Francisco Bay Area

The UAS rules are clearly still evolving, and they really do need some work. As it currently stands, since I live within the surface area of the local Class C (about 4 nm from the nearest runway), I need to submit a LAANC request in order to fly my drone 10 feet above my (single-story) roof to...

    Taxiway marking obstruction clearance expectations?

Not a bad idea. Although the helicopter in the OP's scenario was taking off (and I don't understand why the wires would be a problem for a helicopter taxiing from "the ramp" which is presumably the non-private parking ramp to the runway or taxiway), the problem I see here is for helicopters...

    EAA life membership value?

That is so true, and amazing when you read biographies and such of WW1 pilots. They will sometimes mention a plane being an old, obsolete design - which always surprises me a little, since aviation had barely been around for 10 years at that point. The pace of progress was incredible. Think...

    Taxiway marking obstruction clearance expectations?

Is this the private hangar and wires you're talking about? Yeah, that is definitely an unusual layout. Note I said it doesn't seem like a good idea (and it's not) - but that doesn't mean there's much you or the airport can do about it, short of the private owner paying to have the lines buried.

    Taxiway marking obstruction clearance expectations?

Cool! I definitely wasn't thinking "major airport" though. Obviously some actual study and analysis went into constructing that.

    Part 61 - Number of CFI's

I agree. The flight school I trained at had about 6 or 7 Cessna 172s from the 60's and 70's, all different years, with different radios, equipment, etc. For example, some had the old flap lever while some had the newer pre-set one. I strongly believe it made me a better pilot because I had to...

    Taxiway marking obstruction clearance expectations?

There are no TERPS here because those only deal with taking off from an actual runway or helipad. Takeoffs from taxiways and parking aprons are at the helicopter pilot's own risk. In fact, at a towered field, the controller won't even clear the helicopter for takeoff, rather specifying that it...

Logging cross country +50NM between Depart Dest Airports FLYING Non Direct Route

I do enjoy how you even quote the reg wrong. The definition of XC for ratings: (B) That includes a point of landing that was at least a straight-line distance of more than 50 nautical miles from the original point of departure; Note the word "original" before "point of departure" that you...

Logging cross country +50NM between Depart Dest Airports FLYING Non Direct Route

Your opinions, beliefs and methods are so out of sync with standard and accepted practice that I don't even know where to begin. Or why I'm going to bother. First, this is a valid XC In either direction. You want a regulatory reference? That's easy. 61.1b, definition of Cross Country Time...

    Runup area to runway priority?

This. The taxi clearance is (typically) to the runway, not to the runup area. As a piston airplane, it is expected that you will pull off into the runup area, do your thing, then continue on as cleared. Meaning taxi up to the runway, hold short, and call tower. Consider this the "default"...

Logging cross country +50NM between Depart Dest Airports FLYING Non Direct Route

Yeah, why the long-winded question with all the unnecessary exposition? It's a simple question with a simple answer. It's XC. Could have saved yourself a lot of typing.

    EAA life membership value?

I continue my EAA membership, as I feel it's worth it to me, but I discontinued getting the magazine a few years ago. I guess technically I switched to "online version only" but I never read it. Just too much else to read and not enough time.

    looking for a beta reader(s)

Yes and no. I've read a lot of books on KU, and while some of the authors seem barely literate, others are quite good, and have their own reasons for using KU over traditional publishing methods.
