    scream

It seemed reasonably secure to me, until I saw this today: Fascinating, but scary how easily they were able to intercept phone calls, text messages, etc without the real user ever knowing.

Oxygen Concentrator for older folks flying between 7000 to 10,000 feet

I would expect anything battery powered and purchased from TEMU to start on fire, and thus wouldn't take it on an airplane... I don't know a brand or model, but Aviation Consumer did do a review of an oxygen concentrator aimed at the aviation market several years back.

FFS. I need a new hobby.

Sigh... I come from a red-tractor family, but all of our red tractor brands are now gone. :( Plus, Deere is making some really nice stuff. I've been lusting after a 1025R (which it looks like this might be?), but I'm probably gonna keep tinkering on my last red tractor for a while, maybe even...

I hope your response was "I wasn't getting paid."

    Desser v VSE

I'm just glad there's an alternative. Been a Desser customer for a long time, but they sold out to a faceless company, their prices aren't any better than anyone else's any more, and I was dreading my next purchase. I think I know where it's going now.

Rant: Exercising PIC, no not that PIC

Yeah, I think I would have offered to check the tire for him and then say "It's fine, have yourself a nice flight!" :o

FFS. I need a new hobby.

Odd... The only mags I've had fail were from the gears, and I was told it's quite common here in the colder regions. In the winter especially, the nylon gears get heated way up every flight and then get really cold again, and it makes them brittle, and teeth and whole gears fail. Does the dual...

Tach to Hobbs conversion for logging

Yet, the FAA has long considered "rental Hobbs" as a valid method of logging flight time. Should people be encouraged to let the plane roll a foot immediately after engine start so that they can start logging? Also, "comes to rest after landing" would seem to indicate that if I stopped on the...

Hey young people, tell us what you can do!

And there will never be a mechanism to replace subpar teachers until there are enough good teachers to replace them. Right now, the mechanisms that are in place are exactly the opposite: They are hiring random people off the street to have an adult in the room, and they are being given ever...

Hey young people, tell us what you can do!

And that's fine for them, and expected with really small "class" sizes, heavily invested "teachers", and lots more opportunities for hands-on learning. Are you proposing that we switch to 100% homeschooling? Money is absolutely the core issue. Want better teachers? Give them pay and respect...

Hey young people, tell us what you can do!

If you look at the history of education in the US, it was the private schools that came about first. What stops you from going to a private school? Again, let me state that I am not against school choice. I am very much against it being funded in the way that it is right now. If a kid goes...

Hey young people, tell us what you can do!

Yep, that's an area I'd expect to be expensive. FWIW, in the far northwest Milwaukee burbs, my property taxes are about $5K. And I hope at least 80% goes to the school district... The only other thing property taxes fund here is the municipal government, which in our case is far smaller than...

    iPad mini 7 announced

AppleCare+ has saved my bacon before. That's an excellent option. Most iDevice repairs are not for amateurs... And the pros do it very well. One time I needed a new screen on my iPhone. Looked into the repair, realized it was the kind of thing I was probably going to not have the level of...

Tach to Hobbs conversion for logging

Is that Hobbs on oil pressure, master, airspeed, or other? That's a much smaller difference than I was seeing when I did the same experiment... Which just points to hacking times probably being a better solution!

Cheapest way to build retract time

At $5,245, how many gallons do you have to put through it before it finally pays for itself? I just fly to where the gas I want is and it costs a lot less than that.

Hey young people, tell us what you can do!

Ah, I thought you meant competition for teaching positions. But now that I know what you're talking about, let's sit down for a bit of story time. Here's what actually happens with "government mandated customers." There are quite a few states that allow "school choice", and the ones I'm aware...
