    Delayed in Training

I haven't really changed instructors. My initial instructor is still my instructor. However, when there has been a scheduling conflict, he has sent me up with different CFIs. He also told me that if I had a problem scheduling time with him, that I was OK to schedule myself with another CFI who...

    Delayed in Training

I started my training last May. Except for normal stuff like vacations and weather related delays, I have flown pretty consistently once a week. I soloed in November of last year and by Spring of this year I was at the x-country part of training. I was working on a short x-country (about 25 nm)...

    Landing an Archer

And I guess that is the answer. I was trimmed for the lower end of what my CFI said - 90, but it still may have been too fast. I also have nearly 10,000 feet of runway to work with. He may have had his reasons for the speed being my first flight in the Archer and a long runway, but I'll try it a...

    Hey there!

Welcome Chris. Sounds like we've got a lot in common. I have about 25 hours, and have worked in studios since I was in my 20's. As a musician, not an engineer, although I did help do some mixdowns with some of the producers. I still play, but haven't done anything in the studio for awhile. I...

    Landing an Archer

So 75 KIAS would be considered excessive? That may explain it. I was told to keep it between 90 - 100 mph on approach, which works out to be somewhere around 78 - 86 knots. That may explain some of it. For some reason my CFI likes to keep it fast on approach. He had me keep the Liberty at 80...

    Emergency landing

Unless "wheels up" means this.

    Landing an Archer

Been working out every day :D It was just so much different than the little Liberty, I wanted to make sure I wasn't supposed to do something else I wasn't doing. If I pulled back on the stick that much in the Liberty I would have set it down on the tail. Was supposed to go back up tonight...

    Landing an Archer

I've been training in a Liberty XL2. Last week, I transitioned to an Archer to complete my training. One of the things I noticed was that when I trimmed for landing speed in the Archer, when the time came to flare, it seemed very difficult to get the nose up. I am assuming that I trimmed the...

    Flight simulator good or bad?

+1. I flew MSFS since 1998 because I always wanted to fly but couldn't afford to learn. I flew the "lessons" that Rod Machado taught on the sims - slow flight, steep turns, navigation etc - and most of it trasnlated nicely once I actally got into a real airplane. My instructor attributed my...

    Spatial Disorientation

Wow! Haven't seen anything like that since the 70's. But we didn't use computers to get the sensation then... Cool.

    GOT ME TO THINKING

Hindsight being 20/20, I am looking into renter's insurance now. But I am also close to my checkride and know that I won't be covered once I have my ticket either. My accident occurred while flying solo, and while it could have been pilot error on my part, the school is leaning toward equipment...

    GOT ME TO THINKING

That has been the case for me. I questioned the flight school on renter's insurance prior to beginning my training. I was told that their insurance would cover any damage caused by me in my training. In February, I lost the front wheel while landing during a short X country, which caused...

    music adapter for two headsets?

Is this just the Zulu that does this? I have the Lightspeed QFR that has a cell phone/mp3 interface, but it doesn't fade out with ATC.

    Portable FAR/AIM

+1 I've also got Pilot Far/Aim on the Iphone.

    Rooting and Jailbreaking

I guess that's true too. I did upgrade my OS to 4.01 but no further becasue of the inability to jailbreak past that software release. At least with the method I used to jailbreak.

    Rooting and Jailbreaking

This is true. If you do it correctly, you will be able to restore a jailbroken iPad to it's factory condition. I've jailbroken my iPhone 3GS and won't upgrade to the 4 or 5 until they can be jailbroken.

    My quest for my license

I would prefer to be billed by tach time, but unfortunately, I'm not. It's Hobbs time. I also log Hobbs time. That's what my instructor told me to do. Is that not correct?

    Fending off the flying car

The other useful application that I didn't see was just being able to take off and fly over slower traffic and land in front of them. Sure would make my trip to work every day a little less stressful... Would you even need a certificate to stay in the air less than a minute?

First Cross Country as a private pilot

I'm jealous. Just starting my X-Country solo work. Hopefully it won't be long. Congrats!

    new pilot questions

I disagree that MSFS can't be useful. I flew it for years because I couldn't afford the real thing. MANY years. While you may pick up some bad habits, as has been pointed out, by the time I got to fly a real plane, I knew how to read all of the instruments, how to trim the plane for straight and...
