For the last week or two we have a drone about of our property when we point at it or go to take a video it moves away. How do you find out what this is who it is and how to stop it thank you.

Ask to speak to the drones manager?

It’s public airspace

Only way to stop it would be something like a presidential TFR

There were a number of radio frequency finders that used to be sold on Amazon. No idea if such items are still available. Using those tools, you can often find the direction of the person controlling the drone assuming active control.
Otherwise, there is not a lot you can do "legally".

And what are you going to do when you find him?

Going looking for conflict isn’t always a wise move

Shy of him flying unauthorized in airspace you’d be reporting legal activity, don’t be that person

What are its movements like? Speed, up/down, how long does it stay in one place? Is there any sound?

1. Doesn’t look like a drone.
2. Ignore it and go on with life.

If it is a drone, unless you’re Angelina Jolie sunbathing topless, chances are it’s not there for you.
Yeah, not her, either. Didn't she have a double M? Drone paranoia is a terrible thing, even though I hate having to fly them. More likely than not, IF it is a drone, it's someone having fun, or practicing for a job. Shooting the neighbor's property at night isn't really a thing in the drone world, while getting cool shots of downtown or fireworks is more of a thing. Lighting isn't great at the time of evening the OP posted a photo.

I'm not sure what that is the picture, but if you have a drone covering over your backyard every night, you either ****ed someone off or you're doing something interesting. Stop doing that and ignore it. The operator will quickly get bored.

Oh my. What a slippery slope of expectations to post on a pilot's forum.

My friend owned an avionics shop and he worked on the State Trooper helicopters. One day he was testing out some new cameras and had a pad about the size of a large iPad. The helicopter pilots took off and flew so far away that we couldn't see or hear them. Then, our images popped up on the screen. I was surprised at how clear it was from so far away.

To the OP, it's time to burn the crops and get out... if it's not too late!

If the OP wants to potentially rule out the chance this could be something other than a drone, they could use a tool like Flight Aware to determine if something using ADS-B is the UFO.

If the UFO is reported on one of those tools, more info may he available to them.

Since you’re certain it’s above your property, you raise some long poles and put a net that will catch the drone. You should also take advantage while you’re at it and install a flightaware adsb ground receiver and you’ll receive a free enterprise version of flightaware, then you can track everyone coming near you.

It depends. Is it a friend playing a joke?
Is it the police? Oh sh** what did my kids do would be my first thought.

Without information, you cannot move forward.

As for reporting it. Depending on the issue, you can actually report it as stalking in many states now. Which is illegal.

Probably shouldn't advise people to commit federal crimes!!
Don't try this. This WILL get you in trouble.
True. So incredibly illegal.

Also depending on the level of drone, if it has a INS

and the guy was bored or offended, not only would it have nil effect, he could have all the evidence needed to (legally) jam you up

“Officer, I flew over this house, someone made a Karen like face at me as seen in my high def video, and as you can see here based on my telemetry, GPS signals (like airliners use) were jammed as were the following frequencies, this could have caused my UAS or other aircraft to crash, resulting in major damage to person or property, I would like to press any applicable charges and I am willing to offer this evidence and testify as required”

Cops have searched homes for far less PC, they find the jammer and who knows what else while they are at it

Stalking?

Cop would probably have a better case on the Karen for filing a false police report

“Officer, as you can see from my email/text/invoice I was hired to film the power lines/birthday party/whatever, I have no idea who that person is, they are clearly making false accusations to use the police to harass me, I feel threatened and would like to press charges”

What was really weird, Jack and friend were inside the shop, no windows!

In reality, Jack, I have had an invitation to fly with a State Police team with that technology, either front seat with pilot, or back seat with the observer. Fascinating technology.

PER OP, if you can drive it away by pointing at it, just do that, problem solved.

Or if it flies away when you go for video recorder, just think video recorder, and GONE.

Have fun harassing that imaginary drone.

With my luck, if I tried a jammer it would turn out to be a drone operated by the FCC as part of a direction-finding or signal measurement exercise... if I shot at it, it would turn out to be a drone from the local cops or BATFE looking for something in a neighboring area...

For the OP (not that we'll ever hear from them again), I wouldn't suggest either of those approaches but do wonder if there are restrictions on fireworks where you live.

Educational video

Lesson 1, don’t mess with drones

Lesson 2, don’t talk to the police

Having a drone makes my magazine shoots much easier. No dragging a ladder around to get shots. The first set of rules said we had to have permission from the Airport Manager to fly within five miles of an airport and many people don't know this requirement was dropped. I've been harassed by two different pilots while filming at airports. One of them was extremely angry and yelled at me. When I told him my name, he was caught off guard. He'd never met me, but he knew my name because I had a photoshoot scheduled with him later that month... he wasn't too surprised when I cancelled it.

I usually tell people if a flying airplane hits my drone at an airport, we've got bigger issues.

You could always try a free drone scanner app like Drone Scanner. Install it on your phone and if the drone is transmitting RemoteID info, you should be able to see some identifying information.

Shucks, I was a Ken to the wrong person…

Not getting your photoshoot, that’ll ruin his decade.

If we as pilots can't fly within 500 feet of a structure, why can a kid fly his drone over his neighbors pool at 10 feet AGL?
