Aircraft window tint

I understand how the rule is currently applied, but the way the rule is written leaves it open to interpretation. It doesn't say "the material must have", but "the window must have". A window tinted as I mentioned would comply to the rule as written, but the FAA inspector might disagree and that could turn into an interesting court case for someone that had the time and money to wrestle with the FAA.
Good luck with that one. The luminous transmittance testers use about 1 square inch of material to test. I'd love to watch someone explaining to the FSDO that they need to make three tests, at different places, and then average them.

As mentioned above, its the standard used to provide the 70% measurement that dictates that value. Have seen a few people go down this rabbit hole with zero success.

Careful....tint at your own risk. There is a guy we know who was hunted down by the FSDO and made to remove his tint. It was professionally applied...nicely done.....but didn't have an STC or PMA and it was probably seen on line on his blog or youtube channel. I believe there was no log book entry for the install. They made an A&P sign off after the removal to insure there was no damage. It was kinda excessive IMHO.

In flight I use some car window shades.
