Army Navy Game

Best friend is an Army guy, so Go Army!

I saw the F-18s flying in formation on the way to the game. Didn't take pics because I was just enjoying watching them.

Not knowing about the game, the wife jokingly asked if they were out looking for drones.

I think we spend more on uniforms for this game than some countries spend on their entire defense budget.

There's a lot of donor money in the Athletic budget, plus ticket sales, TV revenue, etc. I don't know for sure but I would guess the football program is net positive.

Navy quarterback with an 82nd patch?

Maybe some of our underfunded allies should take up football.

Navy just plain out played them. Fear the Bones!

This game use to be held in Philadelphia.. My father, older brother, and uncle were at the game when my mother went into labor with me.. My brother tells the story that my father was paged over the loud speaker and he was given a VIP ride from JFK Stadium (then it was call Municipal Stadium) to Thomas Jefferson Hospital (my other uncle was a resident there at the time). The game was on December 1st and I came along at 12:35 AM on the 2nd... and I believe it was the only time there was a tie Army 7 - Navy 7.

For the longest time when growing up, this was part of my birthday celebration, that is tickets to the Army-Navy game, and then dinner at Bookbinders Seafood - no longer there.. And though I was too young to realize it, I did get to see Roger "the dodger" Staubach play.

Years ago I had to run down to the Naval Academy to pick up a piece of equipment for APG. They gave me a spec4 and a Army deuce and a half to go get it. Running around a Naval installation in a green truck the week before the A-N game was an odd feeling.

My neighbors (both Academy grads) used to host an A-N game viewing party. I missed it this year. I usually wore my USMC turtleneck (a gift from running the Marine Marathon a few times). I dig our Academy grad Marine retiree that the marines are just part of the Navy aren't they :)

Hmmm… kinda quiet all a sudden…

GO NAVY, BEAT ARMY!!

LCDR Tools

Gonna enjoy that steak my MAJ buddy is gonna cook me!

Hey, rare occasion lately, Army has a GOOD team. Gonna enjoy it while I can!

My brother-in-law (ret. Army) wanted to take my father-in-law (ret. Navy) to the game in 2022 and asked my other b-i-l and I (neither with military background) to tag along. It was quite an event and was awesome to be a part of. First OT game in series history, which was pretty neat, but the whole atmosphere had a different vibe the other CFB games I've been to. I had heard rumblings about moving it to a different stadium after that year.

My uncle (Army WWII) and my Dad (Navy WWII) would bet $1 on the game every year. I remember this every year when I watch the game.

I watched the game at the pub. I was outnumbered in terms of the N to A ratio, but it was all good fun. It occurred to me when one of the Army guys got injured, that a bad injury suffered in a football game could cause a grinding halt to one's military career.

Well, more of a change than grinding halt. Military a little more friendly than civilian sector in that respect.

But BIG change… would be HORRIBLY disappointing.

I read this quote before the game:

"I'm glad guys at other schools are getting paid big money in NIL," Army junior linebacker Kalib Fortner said. "They should be. But that's not our purpose. It's the brotherhood that's at the center of everything we do and fight for, playing for your brother that's right beside you in the locker room, the one who lives down the hall from you in your barracks, every cadet who's ever come through here, and most importantly, our country."

It's nice to hear that kind of sentiment during (IMO) today's terrible college football landscape.
