ATC peculiarities esp.

it’s been a few years for me. FBO is great from what I remember. Re: ATC .. From which direction are you coming?

I agree. That’s an easy direction to come from. Probably routed over EON at 3 or 4.

Very relaxed ATC, I usually transition their airspace or land and takeoff and go to Midway for a touch and go.

It's a good GA airport, supposedly in a bad neighborhood, though. I wouldn't hesitate to plan a fuel stop there.

Many people headed for downtown Chicago land at Gary. Personally, I prefer Midway and spend the extra $$$ to be closer to the city, but it demonstrated that Gary is a popular choice for GA flying.

Oh yesss don’t leave the airport unless you’re heavily armed.

I had the FBO drive me to the train station to pick up my son once. It was evening. No biggie.

I’ve been to Gary a couple times, no issues. We ubered back and forth to Chicago, FBO was clean and well run.

Gary has been my bad weather layup spot on my way back home to the west suburbs of Chicago. The BColeman FBO is nice. I gobble up the free popcorn, fast Wi-Fi, and the nice big roof I can park my plane under.

And I think my landing fee is like $5.00? Not bad.

Plus Gary controllers have always been accommodating to me routinely cutting through their airspace.

Easy delta to visit. The least busy of all the deltas in Chicagoland, I'd guess.
