FFS. I need a new hobby.

Jim, at this point, I suspect that you have an incredibly improved opinion of your local mechanic.

FTFY. (I wrote up examples of things my house is currently waiting on third parties to get around to, but it got to be long and whiny.)
I was complaining to a friend the other day about my airplane being broken again, and i realized that that is probably the most first world problem, ever.

Maybe slightly behind "my superyacht got blown over in a storm" and "my private island got raided by the FBI".

Why is everything in aviation so hard?
Because youre a captive customer, practically speaking with no other place to go. Should anyone get an inkling that customers deserve better for their money, and decided to compete with the incumbents by delivering more or better service, the prospect of a thorough hazing by FAA/FSDO for their Repair Station Certificate will quickly dissuade them from doing so.

yup, I was gonna answer "captive audience" but decided to bite my lip and let someone else have a crack at it for a while.
:D

Well, two more weeks have passed.

It's use or lose vacation time of year....good luck until mid-Jan...I have 3 days I really need to burn up, a medical appointment and a general winter malaise to deal with *laugh*

I just do not understand the aviation industry. You get better service purchasing a $15,000 new car... In aviation they give you a big bill, but do not want to stand behind it.

The two years spent becoming an A&P might be better spent on building an E-AB unless youre counting on going into business. Then you'll need insurance, business license(s), hangar space for dismantled aircraft waiting on unavailable parts, etc.
I came to the same conclusion

When was the last time you bought a car????? :D :D :D

When was the last time you bought a forty or fifty year old car and got the manufacturers warranty with it?

Better yet, when was the lat time you took a forty or fifty year old car to the dealer for service?

When was the last time the Federal Gov't prohibited you from repairing your own 40 or 50 year old car? When was the last time you needed a USG blessing for parts to bolt onto your 40 or 50 year old car?

When was the last time your 40 or 50 year old car fell out of the sky?

And on the flip side, when was the last time you scrapped an 8-year old airplane because it wasn’t worth fixing due to repairs costing what you paid for it new?

Lulz, I've bought 3 in the last 6 months alone, since my airplane went bye bye. My driveway looks like a dealership at the moment. Happy as a clam.

I'm putting 30k miles/yr currently on a commute from hell, as a result of losing the airplane. Not a single AOG and counting. One warranty claim for a non aog issue, handled nicely and treated fairly. For the ones outside of warranty (given the multiplicity of vehicles im using to blend the miles across) the work has been warrantied for a year, it's been a pleasant experience, and those were multi amu repairs (hvac).

The service and bang for buck for the dollars spent has been above and beyond any treatment I ever got from the fac built morass. Buncha beat wife syndrome rationalizing the sclerosis up in here.

15 months ago, not that I'm counting or anything.

My six year old sonata has yet to fail mid drive in over 3000 hours of engine run time. Ditto for my jetski but i didnt own it long enough to make the same argument here. My exwife vw blew the timing chain at 70mph and broke all sorts of ish, also my old jeep xj ignition sensor failed leaving me stranded in a median, so it's not like I'm being gratuitous/cherry picking about the former.

Point being I don't have a problem with "trash" reliability. Compared to taking the bus to work, single engine rec flying is suicidal anyways, which is to say thats a sunk cost if you're already here, so one either stipulates or finds another way to risk your life for recreation.

This issue isn't about that. Read my signature or I'm gonna repeat myself. I get that in automotive, rec aviation is fubar'd by comparison. It doesn't have to be; they're not for revenue airline buses, and they don't have to be. But I'm preaching to choir, this response isn't at you directly.

Aint technology funny...scrolling thru the facetubes and a post by Airworx pops up...about a rebuilt 170hp O300 going out to a customer. I really wanted to post and ask if they really followed the manual/SB/SI but I didnt.

But here is there FB review page in case anyone wants to provide some actual feedback. Its kind of sad as reviews from several years ago are very positive and the last one is about an inflight failure at .6 hours...rebuild and then another failure at 24hours...no warranty.

Huh. I didn't know Facebook had reviews. Interesting.

I've followed him on there for a couple years now. About a year ago, he threw a tantrum and said he wasn't going to accept Franklin engines any more because of cheap owners expecting too much.

I'm kind of waiting for him to throw a tantrum about someone sicking the fsdo on him. Although, I never have gotten any response from my hotline report. I should probably follow up on that.

My point was, not too many $15,000 NEW cars. :D
