Sure, I get unsolicited marketing phone calls all the time. Like most folks, I tell 'em, "Not interested," and if they keep talking, I just hang up on 'em. I'm not a jerk, but I'm also not overly polite about it. Life's too short to be bothered by unsolicited callers.

Recently, I've noticed that almost every single caller is trying to push a new solar system. Inevitably, the response to my, "Not interested" comment is, "How much are you paying for electricity every month?" I don't know if it's the same company, if it's 100 different companies reading from the same script, if it's a front for a scam, or what. All I know is that I've been getting 8-20 calls a week from these folks for a couple of months now.

What gives? Why am I no longer getting any calls offering extended vehicle warranties or free cruises? All of a sudden, it's only people either claiming they want to buy my house or to sell me solar.

I have fun with 'em. "This is Bubba with State Home Solar. How are you today?" "It's overcast here today, Bubba." Then I hang up.

My favorite calls are the survey callers. I immediately say that I'd love to ask them some question and could they wait until I can think up a good one?

It might not be a scam, per se. The solar industry has been taking a hit recently, so they may be getting desperate.

On the other hand, they could very well be scams.

wait until you are old enough for medicare. This is open season and we are getting tons of junk mail about medicare advantage plans and also a huge number of calls.

For a while I thought the calls were because of the election nonsense, but no, calls are continuing...

Hopefully after 7 Dec, the calls will drop off.

I get calls all the time asking if I want to sell my property on West Street.

I tell them I don't own property on West Street.

It's "W" street, but they don't need to know that....

We stopped answering the home phone 10 years ago since we both had cell phones. Only used it for fax and maybe internet?
Then we turned off the landline 5-6 years ago. Don't miss it a bit, especially the sales calls. Only bad part is I am not in the phone book any longer...lol

One of the joys of being retired is not having to answer calls from anyone I don't know.

Exactly! If I don't know you, call all you want and talk to voice mail. If you sound like a reasonable human I'll call you back. If you continue to call without leaving a voice mail or if you have a nasty disposition then you get the block/ban/outta here/gone/history/buh-bye 4-ever treatment ...

"So I got me an office, gold records on the wall
Just leave a message, maybe I'll call . . ."

I have my phone set to ring ONLY for numbers in my address book. unrecognized numbers go directly to voice mail. My voicemails are transcribed so I don't even need to listen - just scan a few, words of text...

Two landlines, one listed, the other not. Give the listed one out freely...don't answer it, just let it go to an answering machine. Family and friends have the unlisted number. Two cell lines, which are only given out when *we* see the need.

The company that installed my solar system sent me a sales email and then apologized for it. (Can't put any more solar here, out of roof space).

These solar guys are worse than car salesmen. The one that I finally went with was the only one who came up with an actual proposal and told me what panels and inverters they were going to use and told me that if I had other ones I'd rather have, they'd gladly switch to the ones I wanted.

The rest were a bunch of "this quote is good for one day only" with no real details.
