Hey guys-- a handy site that was a clearing house for aviation incident news traffic was unceremoniously scrubbed by the wise FB censors. We don't know why. But basically this guy would get the NTSB feeds and others like it and copy and paste so we'd know what's going on in the aviation world. He didn't ever do accident analysis or proffer speculation or opinions. Group was called Aviation Accidents and Incidents / NTSB Case Studies. Anyone have a clue as to why FB would delete the Page?Accidents.png

My guess a complaint of this form lead to Facebook removing it, probably on PII grounds.

Note I have absolutely no idea if this is the case, just noting what I found from a fast Google. But the PII angle seems the most likely looking at Facebooks content guidelines.

Also “censors”? Why are you making this so politically charged. Yeesh.

Maybe the NTSB bitched about it. Like the guy was getting internal communications and making them public???

To be censored you can only publish facts. If there is misinformation and conspiracy theories, it has to stay up. That is the rule.
Everyone knows that.

Tim (could not resist)

Just....Wow! I loved that page. There is always something to learn from an accident and waiting on the NTSB to give a final report 3 years from now nobody will remember it. Surprised FB gave it the death penalty without even a comment period or possibility of review. I guess we're learning there is no such thing as "free press" anymore.

He explicitly mentioned Trump in the next one?
Aside from that, "censorship" was the word of the week. The title could have read "Facebook Mods strike again"...maybe not as clickbaity.

thought it was quiet lately, will miss it.
the loss is irksome.
if anyone comes across a replacement, lmk.
And it wasn't the commenting: Comments were turned off from the beginning.
It was simple and plain fact. I don't get it.

"Free press" has always primarily protected the owner of the press.

Did NTSB Copyright/Trademark the Jacket shown on the page????

Free press is still a thing. You are free to create your own website and put what you want on it. If you want to use someone else's forum like Facebook or even this one you have no right to post anything the owner doesn't want. They have no obligation to sponsor it.

I think we all understand this.
We just don't get why this could in any way be considered a violation of this site's (or any site's) rules.
It's public info, and helpful - not harmful.
It can be used to reduce accidents.
No explanation was offered.

The page's owner was surely sent some kind of reason, whether or not it made sense who knows.

They do use AI and bots to flag/take stuff down there are overzealous users out there who will report stuff. I had an ad for free scrap metal auto-removed once and the reason given was that I was advertising a "service" somehow. A lot of the time it just makes no sense and probably isn't valid but you have to get a human to review that and it can be a challenge to get ahold of anyone.

I imagine if I made my living off one of these platforms this sort of arbitrary moderation would keep me up at night.

I wonder what people did from 1776 to 1990 when Newspapers determined what got printed and what didn’t.
The number of times I have asked this and gotten blank looks.

Tim

I've seen a lot of reports on Facebook of folks saying FB deleted their pages due to "Community Standards." The "offenders" are like discussions of Wordle, or knitting or movies. I suspect FB changed their algorithm lately, and it's running amok.
