Names assigned for waypoints, intersections, Air Traffic Control (ATC) coordination, and Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) fixes not co-located with a navigational aid.

Who cares now? Controllers assume you are typing it into an FMS or GPS so the spell every fix.

And there are a LOT not on that list.

Agree - @brien23 I'm not sure what your question or even statement is here. There are thousands of fixes, some with obvious pronunciations, others not so much. And it's not like there is an approved "pronunciation guide" anyway. Whatever gets the information across.

Except when it's in the name of a STAR. Then you bring up the list and guess which sounds the closest.
 
This is a REALLY FUN game to play in Mexico…. Yikes
 
LOL. One of the approaches in my area has an IAF named KAKLE. The first time I flew it for a practice VFR approach, I asked ATC for "Direct 'kackley'" At first the controller couldn't figure out what I was talking about, then laughed, "Proceed direct 'cackle'."

Pronunciation of some are definitely more obvious than others. I think trying to figure out where some come from is more interesting. This is the RNAV 18 approach into Mt Airy (the real Mayberry). Most of the fixes are obvious, but what the heck are WILSU and FUZIL?

One of my favorites is in the south, Jawja. Pronounced just like a sophisticated southern gentleman would say Georgia.

Is crazy woman still active? CZI, figured they would take that one out.
 
San Francisco (KSFO) TRUKN TWO DP has TYDYE, TRUKN, GRTFUL, DEDHD, HYPEE, COSMC. The SERFR FOUR arrival has SERFR, NRRLI, WWAVS, EPICK. (Gnarly is surfer lingo for challenging conditions, or fantastic.)

San Jose (KSJC) used to have an arrival with GOALI, JAWWS, SHARK in tribute to their Sharks hockey team.
