Hey Ya'll - I have a 80 GB Zune and I do like it quite a bit. The only thing I don't love about it, is the fact that the "accessories" are quite limited for Zunes. I find speaker sets and gadgets for ipods all the time but not Zunes.

Any Zune users that have good speaker/charging accessories for their Zune that would like to share info.

Thanks,
Shane

I've got one as well, it's relegated to a drawer for that very reason, I've got an iPod now since nearly every boat I get on has a drop on charger/base tied into the A/V system.

Best Buy has a few accessories. I have a few, even a docking station for it at work with a speaker.

I understand there's an iPod dock adapter in the pipeline. Stay zuned....

I heard that 2 years ago as well..... still waiting  It was a dumb idea for Microsoft to design it with a different plug, they came late to the game, they should have set to the standard.

That is funny. 1st of all, Microsoft specifically designs it's products to not follow standards, in trust that the world will go with Microsoft and the rest will have to follow THAT as a standard. That's why to this day Internet Explorer doesn't follow W3 standards. Microsoft has no concept of markets it can't dominate.

BTW, lock in is the very reason why Apple won't sell music in the iTunes Music Store that doesn't have the DRM, even when the producer doesn't want the DRM.

Also, Apple may have a patent on the iPod interface. I know there are countless cheap power and sync cords but they might get away with it only because Apple doesn't deign to pursue them. Apple would pursue Microsoft. There was talk when the new connector and dock came out that Apple would bless products with "iPod Compatible."

There is no way Microsoft would have been able to build it with the iPod connector no matter how much they may have wanted to. The wonders of technology, patents, and lawyers.

Sure they could. License the gizmo from Apple.

Yeah, because Apple would license it to them. If they did it'd be at a price so unaffordable they wouldn't bother. The iPod really depends on their exclusive accessories.

I cant imagine it being that difficult to figure out the connectors and make a conversion cable.

Mmmmmmm....maybe.... I bet with a license fee, since Apple still holds the lions share of the market, with a reasonable license fee and software contract that sends the default to iTunes and the iTune store for music, they will still come out ahead. I doubt it would cause them to lose much or any of their hardware business because the iPod still has the benchmark user interface. The Zune is basically dead, I would gander they made <5% of the market share, and since I doubt it will ever increase regardless the accessory situation, the best thing Apple could do to kill off the Zune, would be to get all the Zune owners to buy iPod compatable periferals. These products don't last long for most people, we destroy or lose them, the get stolen or they die on their own within 2-3 years, sometimes less. If the people have iPod compatable periferals, and an iStore account, most likely, their next player purchase will be an iPod since the price is comparable, and the unit superior.
There are of course the people who won't have anything to do with an iPod and iTunes because of its restrictive nature, but they wouldn't get their business anywhere, so they may as well make the change they can from the licensing fee from the periferal manufacturer (if they are charging one, I assume they are, though I have no substantiation of that).

The same thinking as Beta/VHS, and look where that got Sony. Licensing would expand the pie for Apple and MS, as well as the music and other content industries. P****** contests only wet each others shoes....
